Offensive Player of the Year: Zedekiah Anahu-Ambrosio, Konawaena, WR, So.
The sophomore established himself as a supreme talent last fall and was a major contributor to Konawaena's unprecedented run to a Division I state championship. Anahu-Ambrosio recorded 72 receptions, which was the second most in all of D1, for 1083 yards, which was behind only Aiea's Jayden Chanel (1,130 receiving yards) for the most in the state's middle tier. However, no one was even close to Anahu-Ambrosio's 22 receiving touchdowns, which led all players in the state, regardless of Division, by a wide margin. In three games against Hilo, he totaled 21 receptions for 251 yards and six touchdowns. Anahu-Ambrosio posted 12 catches for a season-high 149 yards and two TDs in a come-from-behind win over Aiea in the semifinals of the state tournament. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound wide receiver and defensive back also came up with five interceptions and two fumble recoveries on the other side of the ball. Anahu-Ambrosio, who already owns a scholarship offer from BYU, accounted for 28 total touchdowns between offense, defense and special teams.
Defensive Player of the Year: Torrance Satta-Ellis, Konawaena, DB, Sr.
The senior served as a lockdown cornerback for the state champion Wildcats, but wore a number of different hats in all three phases of the game. The 6-foot, 175-pound Satta-Ellis recorded five interceptions and 27 tackles on the year, along with one tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Additionally, Satta-Ellis caught 33 passes for 577 yards and 10 touchdowns on offense. He also had a kickoff return for touchdown in win over Keaau in the semifinals of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I tournament and was responsible for 25 point-after-touchdown kicks in all. Satta-Ellis tallied interceptions in back-to-back weeks in September wins over Keaau and Waiakea and capped off his prep career with five tackles in the state title game against Waipahu. The Wildcats allowed only 8.5 points and 96.8 yards per game defensively. Satta-Ellis was honored as the male winner of the High School Heisman Award for the state of Hawaii in early November.
Coach of the Year: Brad Uemoto, Konawaena
In his eighth year and seventh season as head coach at his alma mater, Uemoto did what no other coach in Konawaena history has done: win a state football championship. Five years after his squad reached the Division II state final only to lose in heartbreaking fashion in a seven-overtime thriller to powerhouse Lahainaluna, Uemoto's Wildcats won their final 11 games of the 2022 season, capped off with their 38-28 triumph over Waipahu in the D1 title game to lay claim to the Big Island Interscholastic Federation's third state crown since 2017. In addition to a stingy defense that notched seven shutouts, Konawaena featured a high-powered offense behind quarterback Keoki Alani (3,408 pass yards, 50 pass TDs) that averaged 52.4 points and 434.1 yards per game.
