Head coach: Kealoha Wengler (8th season overall, 1st at KS-Hawaii) Offensive coordinator: TBA Defensive coordinator: Lyndon Turner
Players to watch: QB Jadin Chaves (5-9, 165, Jr.), LB/FB Toby Lau (5-10, 230, Jr.), RB Michael Perry (5-6, 160, Jr.), DL/TE Tyce Pacheco (6-2, 265, Sr.)
Coach's words: "We are a very young and ambitious team learning not just football, but Hawaiian language as a means of communicating on the field. It is difficult to tell how we stack up against the rest of our division because we've only been together practicing for just a few weeks and I'm sure the other schools are feeling the same at this point." - Kealoha Wengler
SL's take: The Warriors have their third different coach in three seasons with Wengler, who was the head coach at Anuenue on Oahu from 2007 to 2013. Wengler succeeds Shaun Perry, who led Kamehameha-Hawaii for just one year in 2019 following an eight-year run under former coach Dan Lyons. Perry's son, Michael, shared QB duties as a freshman in his father's lone season as head coach. The younger Perry, then a mere 135 pounds, fared well despite his youth; He completed 62.5 percent of his pass attempts (70 of 112) for 1,063 yards and 14 TDs through the air with just four INTs. He also ran for two other scores that season, which saw the Warriors run the table in league play for a perfect 9-0 BIIF record. They won 10 games in all that year, capped off by a league D2 championship and an appearance in the state tournament. Perry has put on about 15 pounds in two years' time and has moved to RB, where he will share the backfield with a talented two-way player in Lau, who, in addition to serving as a leading blocker on offense, will be the linchpin of the defense at MLB.
