OIA volleyball playoffs open Tuesday


Two-time defending O'ahu Interscholastic Association White champion Moanalua had no trouble making the transition to the Red this season.

Na Menehune is the East's top seed in the OIA Red boys' volleyball tournament, which starts Tuesday. It is a double-elimination from the quarterfinals on.

East champion Moanalua and runner-up Roosevelt, the two-time defending Red champion, and West champion Leilehua and runner-up Waipahu, all draw first-round byes and will begin play Thursday.

Here are Tuesday's first-round matches:

At Kalani
West 4 Mililani vs. East 5 Kalaheo, 5 p.m.
East 3 Kalani vs. West 6 'Aiea to follow

At Wai'anae
East 4 Kaiser vs. West 5 Pearl City, 5 p.m.
West 3 Wai'anae vs. East 6 Farrington to follow

Thursday's quarterfinals

At Moanalua
West 2 Waipahu vs. winner of Kalani-'Aiea, 5 p.m.
East 1 Moanalua vs. winner of Mililani-Kalaheo to follow

At Leilehua
East 2 Roosevelt vs. winner of Wai'anae-Farrington, 5 p.m.
West 1 Leilehua vs. winner of Kaiser-Pearl City to follow

Semifinals and third- and fifth-place matches continue April 26.

The White playoffs, also double-elimination, begin Thursday.

At Campbell
East 2 Kahuku vs. West 3 Waialua, 5 p.m.
West 2 Campbell vs. East 3 McKinley to follow

April 26 at Castle (semifinals)
West 1 Radford vs. winner of Kahuku-Waialua, 5 p.m.
East 1 Castle vs. winner of Campbell-McKinley to follow
