SALT LAKE – Moanalua sent 11 batters to the plate in a seven-run bottom of the seventh inning to rally past Kailua, 8-7, Saturday in Oahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division baseball at Na Menehune field.

The game ended with two out in the seventh when the 11th batter of the inning, Cody Isa, reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, scoring Randy Tabura from third with the winning run for Moanalua (1-1)

"The last inning, everything fell our way," Moanalua coach Scott Yamada said. "Earlier in the game, it was the other way around. We came out flat. I'm happy for the boys that they never gave up."

It was a tough loss for the Surfriders (1-1), who got a decent outing from 6-foot-5 left-hander Joey Cantillo, who pitched five strong innings. But the relief that followed labored.

"Dustin's our guy," Kailua coach Corey Ishigo said. "He needed some work and I wanted to have some pressure on him. He'll get through it. It's just one game, it's still early in the season. We found out today who can play and who cannot play."

Tyler Trim picked up the win, allowing a hit with a scoreless top of the seventh. He was the fourth pitcher of the day for Moanalua. Closer Dustin Imanaka, who came in for Cody Takabuki with one out and a runner at second with four runs already in, gave up the tying and deciding runs in taking the loss.

Kailua took an early 2-1 lead after three innings and then had a four-run fifth on Brendan Odo's RBI ground-rule double and Dalton Kalama's three-run inside-the-park home run. For good measure, Cantillo helped his cause with a solo homer over the short right-field fence to make it 7-1 after six innings.

Cantillo was pulled after five innings, allowing a run, three hits and four walks while striking out three. Cody Takabuki pitched a perfect sixth but got in trouble after retiring the first batter in the bottom of the seventh.

Cody Isa singled before Dilan Casupang and pinch hitter Reg Naguwa walked to load the bases. Kekaulike Kalua reached on single to short to score Isa and reload the bases. Andrew Oasay grounded a double to left to score two to make it 7-4. With runners at second and third, Takabuki was replaced by Imanaka, who was greeted by a line single off the pitcher's glove that scored a run to make it 7-5 with runners at first and second.

Randy Tabura then hit into an apparent grounder to third for a force at second, but he was ruled safe on catcher's interference to load the bases and plate a run to pull Moanalua to 7-6. Mark Kitano-Maguire walked to force in the tying run.  With the bases loaded and Isa at the plate, Oshiro was caught stealing home, while the other runners moved to second and third during the rundown. Isa then hit a grounder that was misplayed by the shortstop to allow Tabura to score the winning run.

Moanalua starting pitcher Skyler Yamamoto, a right-hander, went the first three innings, allowing two runs, two hits and a walk with one strikeout. The runs scored on a first-inning sacrifice fly by Lawson Faria and a third-inning double by Kealoha-Machado, who scored when Imanaka reached on an error as he tried to bunt the runner over.

Moanalua left-hander Tabura pitched a perfect fourth, but some wildness hurt him in the Surfriders' four-run fifth. Noah Ah Yat walked to lead off the inning before Kalei Kealoha-Machado struck out. After Imanaka walked, Odo grounded a double to left-center that apparently went under the outfield fence. He lost an RBI and had to settle for an RBI ground-rule double. Kalama then drilled a fly off the center field fence that caromed toward left for his inside-the-park homer that made it 6-1. Cantillo's homer off Ikehara in the sixth made it 7-1.

The only run Cantillo allowed came in the third. Capusang led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Trim's single to left.
