Morikawa piloted Mililani airshow in OIA Red semis

Following the win over Farrington in the OIA Red semifinals, the expression on the face of senior quarterback Jarin Morikawa was perhaps described as one of relieved happiness mixed in with steely determination.

"There's always room for improvement, but we're happy to be in the championship game," said Morikawa following the win.

The senior signal caller accounted for 356 passing yards and five touchdowns to help the Trojans avenge a loss just over a year ago to the Governors in the OIA Red quarters, but was quick to attribute his team's success to the cast of characters around him.

"A little sloppy at first, missed some reads," said Morikawa, "but after that we were able to get on the same page and we started rolling from there."

Morikawa and the Mililani offense did get rolling, converting 21-of-34 pass attempts at a 10.5 per catch clip, which included scoring passes 12-, 37-, 20-, and two scores from 55-yards respectively.

The two touchdowns of the 55-yard variety, caught by receivers Preston Sinn and Erren Jean-Pierre, put the game all but out of reach for the Govs.

"Preston Sinn, you throw him an arrow route, he scores a 60 yard touchdown" remarked Morikawa. "You just give him the ball in space and he makes things happen."

"Erren (Jean-Pierre) had a bunch of big plays too, running by his defender, and all I had to do was put it up there for him."

The Trojans will face a stiff test when they face Kahuku for the OIA Red Division title Friday at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.
