Saint Louis-Punahou clash highlights Week 6

All eyes will be on Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium Friday night when Punahou takes on Saint Louis in a clash of Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I foes.

The lone game featuring two teams in the ScoringLive/OC16 Power Rankings will feature the reigning ILH champion and last year's state runner-up Buffanblu against 2010 state champion Saint Louis. Kickoff is expected to be around 7:45 p.m. The game will follow a Division II game between Damien and Pac-Five at 5 p.m.

INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE OF HONOLULU

Damien vs. Pac-Five - Friday, 5 p.m. at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium

After a hot 3-0 start, the Monarchs (3-1, 0-1) were cooled off in a 28-0 shutout against Punahou last week. Damien had just 123 yards of total offense and allowed 364 passing by the Buffanblu. Junior quarterback Syles Choy has thrown for 467 yards with four touchdowns against two interceptions and senior running back Kyle Sato is averaging 6.8 yards per carry with four touchdowns this season. Damien's defense has proven to be tough against the run, allowing just under 50 rushing yards per game by opponents, who have scored just 12.3 points per game against the Monarchs. The Wolf Pack (4-1, 0-2) have dropped their last four games after a 26-13 win over Waipahu in week one. Pac-Five was dominated in all facets in a 42-7 loss to Kamehameha last week. The Warriors had 440 total offensive yards to Pac-Five's 93. The Wolf Pack's lone touchdown came on a fourth-quarter pass from Cody Kim to Keoni Tom-Millare.

No. 3 Punahou vs. No. 4 Saint Louis - Friday, 7:45 p.m. at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium

The Buffanblu (3-1, 2-0) were hardly challenged in a 28-0 win over Damien last week. Junior quarterback Tui Tuileta was nearly perfect, completing 12 of 13 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns, including a 45-yard scoring strike to sophomore receiver Kanawai Noa on a fourth-and-18 play. Aside from a week four win over Kamehameha in which it had 156 rushing yards from senior Ryan Tuiasoa, Punahou has lived by the pass. The Buffanblu are averaging 303.8 passing yards and 30.8 points per game. Tuileta (9 TDs, 1 INT) has completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 1,047 yards - the most amongst all Division I quarterbacks. The Crusaders (2-2, 1-0) are coming off a 68-39 shootout victory over Iolani last week. Sophomore quarterback Ryder Kuhns - playing for an injured Kawai Mook-Garcia (leg) - was 16-of-22 passing for 256 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Junior running back Adam Noga carried 20 times for 147 yards, including three scores, and senior wide receiver Jeremy Tabuyo, caught three touchdown passes and recovered a loose ball in the end zone for another score against the Raiders.

Red East Conference

Kaimuki at Moanalua - Friday, 7 p.m.

The promotion to the Red East has come with growing pains for the Bulldogs (0-5, 0-3), who just two years ago played for the Division II state title. The rigors of a physical, Division I schedule have been evident in the statistics: Kaimuki is allowing 426.6 yards of total offense by its opponents, including 266.8 rushing yards per game. In a 48-12 loss to Kailua last week, the Bulldogs' defense allowed 274 rushing yards, including 266 and four touchdowns by Jarrin Young. Na Menehune (2-3, 2-1) saw their two-game win streak snapped in a 28-7 loss to Farrington last week. Junior quarterback Micah Kaneshiro scored his team's lone touchdown on a 10-yard run, but also was picked off twice by the Governors, including one that was returned for a touchdown.

No. 1 Kahuku vs. Castle - Friday, 7 p.m. at Carleton E. Weimer Field

The top-ranked Red Raiders (3-0, 2-0) will be playing their fourth consecutive home game to start the season. Kahuku had a pair of 100-yard rushers in senior Aofaga Wily (28 rushes, 127 yards, TD) and PJ Liua (9 rushes, 116 yards, 2 TDs), a pick-six by senior linebacker Johnny Tapusoa and a kickoff return for touchdown by senior Devailo Galeai in a 35-6 win over McKinley last week. The Red Raiders, who completed just one of nine total pass attempts on offense against the Tigers, are allowing a meager 8.7 points per game by opponents. The Knights (0-4, 0-2), who are one of two winless teams in the Red East, had a week off following a 33-12 loss at Moanalua on Aug. 31. Castle is averaging just 80.5 yards and 7 points per game on offense, while allowing 331 yards and 34.8 points by its opponents. For the season, it has been outscored 139 points to 28. The game was originally schedule to be played at Castle, but was moved to Kahuku due to the on-going re-surfacing project at the Knights' home field.

No. 2 Farrington vs. McKinley - Saturday, 5 p.m. at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium

The Governors (5-0, 3-0) are coming off a 28-7 win over Moanalua, in which they racked up 364 rushing yards and allowed just 47 yards of total offense. Sophomore defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown against Na Menehune. Running back Amo Silva carried 23 times for 216 yards with one score and fellow senior Tyler Taumua rumbled for 143 yards on 19 rushes and two touchdowns. The Tigers (2-2, 1-1) are coming off a 35-6 loss at top-ranked Kahuku last week. McKinley committed four first-half turnovers, allowed a special teams score on a kickoff return, and gained just 110 yards on offense against the Red Raiders.

Red West Conference

Waianae at No. 9 Campbell - Friday, 7 p.m.

The Seariders (2-3, 1-2) are tied for sixth in the Red West with Waipahu, but hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with their 23-20 win over the Marauders last week. Junior quarterback Kekoa Kaluhiokalani threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns against Waipahu. In its two league losses, Waianae has been outscored 52 to 9. The Sabers (4-1, 2-1) suffered its first loss in a 45-26 defeat to Mililani last week. Campbell allowed 359 yards of total offense, including 280 passing by Jarin Morikawa. Senior defensive back Corian Reyes-Thomas had a 39-yard pick-six against the Trojans, who have a bye this week.

Waipahu at No. 8 Aiea - Friday, 7 p.m.

The Marauders (1-4, 1-2) could very easily be 4-1 at this point. Aside from a 26-13 season-opening loss to Pac-Five, Waipahu's three other losses have come by a combined eight points, including last week's 23-20 loss to Waianae. Quarterback Kaimi Paredes (6 pass TDs, 3 rush TDs) and receiver Dylan Pakau (5 receiving TDs) have proven to be a dangerous combination. Pakau's 382 receiving yards rank him second statewide amongst all Division I pass-catchers. Na Alii (3-1, 1-1) are coming off a 18-16 upset of previously-unbeaten Leilehua last week that led to a three-way tie with Kapolei, Leilehua and Aiea for third place in the Red West. Junior running back Mana Kaahanui scored two rushing touchdowns and junior Jae Won Huh kicked a 27-yard field goal, that proved to be the winning score, against Leilehua.

No. 6 Leilehua at Kapolei - Friday, 7 p.m. (OC16)

The Mules (3-1, 1-1) had been plus-11 on turnover ratio entering last week's game against Aiea, but gave it away three times against Na Alii and ended up losing a close one. Quarterback Justin Jenks left the game early in the third quarter with a shoulder injury and was replaced by fellow junior Levi Castanares, who finished 19-of-25 passing for 192 yards. Senior wide receiver Keoni Piceno caught a season-high 13 passes for 134 yards and senior defensive lineman Andrew Sesepasara had two sacks against Aiea. The Hurricanes (3-1, 1-1) were idle in week five and last played on Sept. 1, when they handed Waianae a 17-2 loss. Senior running back Jacob Kukahiko is averaging 7.6 yards per carry and already has five rushing touchdowns.

White Conference

Kaiser at Nanakuli - Friday, 7 p.m.

The Cougars (3-2, 3-1), who have won three straight after an 0-2 start, put up 50 points in a blowout of Anuenue last week. Senior running back Kai Gonda again paced Kaiser with four touchdowns: two rushing, one passing and a kickoff return. Junior defensive end/running back Fitou Fisiiahi recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown and ran in another score against Anuenue. The Golden Hawks (3-1, 3-1) are coming off a 42-30 home win over Kalani, in which they pounded 384 rushing yards, led by junior quarterback Chazz Troutman's 247-yard, 3-touchdown effort. Senior running back Khade Paris added 106 yards on 22 rushes and two scores. Kalaheo, which is idle this week, is currently tied with Kaiser and Nanakuli for second in the White Conference, but has already beaten both teams.

Roosevelt vs. Kalani - Friday, 7 p.m. at Kaiser Stadium

The Rough Riders (0-3, 0-3) have been roughhoused by the rest of the White Conference early on. In three games, Roosevelt has been outscored 159 to 14 by its opponents. Despite an early 7-0 lead on Pearl City last week, the Rough Riders allowed eight unanswered scores by the Chargers and were torched, 54-7. Roosevelt's defense allowed 358 yards, while its offense gained just 109. The Falcons (2-2, 2-1) need to get back on the winning track with a road game at division-leading Radford next week and a showdown with playoff-contender Kalaheo the following week. Senior running back Genta Hammani scored two rushing touchdowns in a loss to Nanakuli last week.

Pearl City vs. Anuenue - Saturday, 4 p.m. at Waialua

The Chargers (1-4, 1-3) snapped a string of four straight losses with a 54-7 rout of Roosevelt last week. Senior quarterback Brock Texeira threw for 310 yards and seven touchdown passes - five of them going to Isaac Amorin, who totaled eight receptions for 211 yards against the Rough Riders. Na Koa (1-4, 1-3) fell behind 43-0 after three quarters in an eventual 50-12 loss at Kaiser last week. Senior running back Kainalu Kaleo, who entered the game averaging nearly 200 rushing yards per game, was held to 72 yards on 18 carries. Anuenue averaged just 2.8 yards per rush and passed for a total of just 25 yards against the Cougars. The teams are tied for sixth in the nine-team White Conference entering this weekend. The top four teams qualify for the OIA Tournament.

Radford at Waialua - Saturday, 6 p.m.

The Rams (4-0, 3-0) are sitting pretty as the lone unbeaten in the White Conference and have sole possession of first place. Junior quarterback Cody Lui-Yuen passed for three touchdowns last week as Radford passed a tough test in a 21-16 win over Kalaheo in mud-bogged conditions at John E. Velasco Stadium. The Rams defense got three takeaways on interceptions by Mana Kakiva, Zach Herman and Ammon Seei. The Bulldogs (0-4, 0-2), who are coming off a bye week, have struggled on both sides of the ball this season. Opponents have outscored them, 170 points to 47, and outgained them by an average of 393.7 to 169.7 yards per game. Waialua, which does not have a junior varsity team, lists nine freshmen on its roster.
