PIAA to host benefit Madden tourney, NLI signing


The Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance is hosting a Madden 2012 Tournament this Saturday at The Villa at the Aloha Tower Market Place to benefit the non-profit organization.

A $500 cash prize will go to the winner of the 64-player, double-elimination tournament, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration at pacificathleticalliance.com is suggested.

Players can also bid on the opportunity to play against several celebrities - including former University of Hawaii players Colt Brennan, Ryan Grice-Mullen, Vince Manuwai and Chad Owens. The online action will close Friday at Noon, Hawaii time.

Also, PIAA has announced it will host a Signing Day ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for high school seniors who signing National Letter of Intents for football, soccer, cross country, track and men�s water polo.

Students interested in participating in the ceremony must register by e-mailing [email protected] by Saturday at Noon. Check-in at the Sheraton Waikiki ballrooms will begin at 6 a.m. The event will begin at 6:20 a.m.

The PIAA was founded in 2003 and has secured over $14 million in athletic and academic scholarships, grants and financial aid for over 1,100 student-athletes from Hawaii and American Samoa.
