Track and Field
Jenkins, Santiago, Felix shine on windy Day 1

Devin Jenkins, Zhane Santiago and Kristine Felix were among the standouts in the first day of the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships held at Maui's War Memorial Stadium.

Baldwin's Kristine Felix raised the bar in the girls pole vault, eclipsing her previous state mark of 11-8 with a 12-6 vault to win the finals, and Saint Anthony's Mark Thayer won the boys high jump with a 6-4 effort, in the only two events finishing on Day 1.

Devin Jenkins, a junior at Kapolei, posted a time of 10.66 in the boys 100-meter dash that surpassed the record mark of 10.80 set by Shane Victorino in 1999, but the effort was deemed wind aided.

In the girls 100-meter hurdles, wind also prevented Kahuku's Zhane Santiago's time of 14.55, besting her previous state mark of 14.71 she set in last year's meet, from counting.

Finals conclude today.
