Kamehameha-Hawai'i advances past Leilehua in PKs


WAIPAHU -- Kamehameha-Hawai'i out-shot Leilehua, 3-1, in penalty kicks after two overtimes yesterday to defeat the Mules, 1-0, and advance to today's JN Automotive Group/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Division II Girls Soccer Championship semifinals.

The Warriors improved to 10-2-4 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 3 seed Kaua'i (7-0-1) in today's 3 p.m. semifinal at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex Field No. 12.

Leilehua, the No. 2 seed and O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference champ, fell to 9-5 and into today's fifth-place bracket game against Honoka'a (7-6-2) at 3 p.m. on Field No. 10.

The Mules' first penalty kick hit the crossbar and bounced back, and Sharayah Ah Chong converted the Warriors' first attempt. Leilehua also failed on its second try which was blocked by a leaping save, but the Mules made a save on Kamehameha-Hawai'i's second attempt, then tied it at 1-1 when Rachel Ten Broeke found an opening in the lower left corner of the net.

Haunani Tomas gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead by converting with a shot to the same spot, and Leilehua's next try was blocked by a diving save.

Rachel Robertson then ended it on a shot to the right past the diving keeper.


KAUA'I 3, HONOKA'A 0

Alyssa Vegas scored two goals and Alexa Tamashiro added another goal as the No . 3 seed and Kauai Interscholastic Federation Red Raiders shut out the Dragons (7-6-2).

Vegas scored in the 18th minute, followed by Alexa Tamashiro's goal in the 37th minute before Vegas scored again in the 52nd minute.


MID-PACIFIC 1, SEABURY HALL 0

Julie Khil scored in the 55th minute to lift the Owls, who improved to 5-9 and will face No. 1 seed and Big Island Interscholastic Federation DII champ Hawai'i Prep (10-2-1) in today's 3 p.m. semifinal at Field No. 11.

The No. 4 seed and Maui Interscholastic League DII champ Spartans fell to 8-8-1 and into today's 3 p.m. fifth-place bracket game against Makua Lani (5-10) on Field No. 9. 


HAWAI'I PREP 1, MAKUA LANI 0

Hannah Unger scored in the 42nd minute on a point-blank shot in front of the goal box to lift Ka Makani.


CONSOLATION BRACKET

RADFORD 3, ST. ANTHONY 2

Kourtnie Jury-Hale scored in the 80th minute to lift the Rams, who improved to 8-4-3 and will face Kalaheo (9-2-3) in tomorrow's consolation bracket final at 3 p.m. at Field No. 5.

Marley Wilkins scored in the ninth minute and Breanna Lechner gave Radford a 2-0 lead in the 20th minute, but Estelle Rossmann cut the lead in half in the 29th minute and Rachel Uehara tied it in the 43rd minute for the Trojans (4-14). 


KALAHEO 6, WAIPAHU 1

Jordyn Rey scored two goals and Jazmin Lugo, Kiana Forsythe, Rachel Peck and Joni Sawada each added one goal as the Mustangs routed the Marauders (8-6-1).

Rey scored in the 14th minute and Lugo in the 21st minute before Waipahu cut the lead to 2-1 on Jahna Tacson's goal in the 36th minute. Rey then scored one minute later to put Kalaheo up, 3-1, at the half and Forsythe added a goal in the 42nd minute to make it 4-1.
