Qingfang Pang dropped 30 points and made the game-clinching free throws as Christ the King (Middle Village, New York) rallied past St. John Bosco (Bellflower, California), 74-71 to reach the Iolani Classic final in their first tournament appearance.

In the prior game, Oak Ridge (Orlando, Florida) pulled away from DeMatha (Hyattsville, Maryland), 69-57, to set up an all-East Coast final on Friday at 8:00 pm.

St. John Bosco (ninth) and DeMatha (18th) were two teams ranked in the MaxPreps top 25, face off in the third place game at 6:30 p.m.

Dwayne Pierce had 17 points and scored the go-ahead basket from underneath off a baseline inbounds play. Cameron Ziegler added 13 points off three 3-pointers to round out the double digit scoring for the Royals.

"It speaks to the kids, they don't get high, they don't get low. They're very mature and they play as hard as they can play. We're never out of any game because of their attitude," Christ the King coach Joe Arbitello said.

Markell Alston inbounded the ball to Pierce, who squeezed it in from the right block with over 52 seconds left to go ahead, 72-71.

"That's the first option on it. We haven't hit the first option all year, but we hit actually it. I didn't tell them to do it, they did it," Arbitello said.

Bosco drained time off the clock and Elzie Harrington's pull up jumper from the baseline was contested by Pang and Alston grabbed the rebound. The Braves fouled Ziegler before fouling Pang, sending him to the line with 10.9 seconds. He swished both for a 74-71 lead that held up.

"He played great tonight, all the people in Hawaii have to be happy watching him play. He was incredible. I think he was very happy about it. I wouldn't want anybody else at the line, he was balling," Arbitello said of Pang.

"I shut out the noise and it was just straight to the rim and made the shot. Easy," Pang said, who hit eight of nine free throws. "Everybody told me I got everything and be myself out on the court."

Brandon McCoy's 3-point attempt from the right wing came up short and Bosco got the ball back with 2.1 seconds left. Kade Bonam launched a 3 from deep but it grazed the front rim as the Royals hung on.

Bonam led the Braves with 19 points, McCoy added 18, Harrington with 15, and Jack Turner had 12.

The Royals overcame three double digit deficits throughout the game. Christ the King trailed by 10 early on before clawing back as Pierce converted a lob from Alston to trail, 26-21.

Christ the King got within one twice in the second quarter and trailed, 36-35 at halftime.

Bosco started pulling away late and Chris Komin hit a 3-pointer in the corner as he was fouled and converted a rare 4-point play to give the Braves a 64-53 lead. Pang split his pair of free throws to trail by 10 entering the fourth.

Christ the King opened the fourth with a 11-2 run and Pierce converted the 3-point play to trail by one, 66-65. McCoy put the Braves ahead by three but Jayden Ramirez tied the game at 68 with a triple from the corner.

"The defense translates to offense and it gets our offense going," Royals guard Chiko Kalu said.

Bonam got the and-one for a 71-70 lead with 2:50 to go but the Royals rallied for the win.

Oak Ridge pulls away from DeMatha, 69-57

Jamier Jones and Jalen Reece each poured in 21 points to lead Oak Ridge (Orlando, Florida) past DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Maryland), in the first game of the Iolani Classic semifinals.

"It feels great and that's what we came here for. We got to get it done, we ain't done yet," Jones said.

Jones hauled down 15 rebounds and Reece hit five 3-pointers and added three steals. Cameron Simpson added 14 points off three 3-pointers off the bench.

"In big games like that, that's what I have to do for us to win. That was a key part," Jones said.

Malcolm Thomas scored 21 points and blocked six shots to lead the Stags. Ashton Meeks added 10 points before fouling out.

Simpson hit a 3-pointer from beyond half court for a 23-12 lead after the first quarter.

The Pioneers poured it on with a 8-0 run to go into halftime. Jones had a putback dunk off Amari Davis' miss. Simpson nailed another 3-pointer and Jones followed up with a dunk and a windmill dunk for a 39-20 lead at intermission.

"It was us playing as a team and trusting each other. That's really what it was," Jones said.

DeMatha outscored Oak Ridge in the third quarter and got within eight, 45-37 off Thomas' 3-pointer. From there, the Pioneers scored six-straight points and the Stags got within 10 following Jamaal McKnight, Jr.'s drive in the lane.

Reece hit a half court shot to make it 54-41 going into the fourth.

The Stags trailed by as much as 18 and got within 10 with under a minute but the Pioneers pulled away for good.
