Punahou sweeps ILH track and field; Kamehameha's Moku breaks three records

Kamehameha senior Tatum Moku was the standout individual, and Punahou swept the boys and girls team titles at the ILH Track and Field Championships on Friday evening at Kunuiakea Stadium on the Kamehameha Schools Kapalama campus.

Moku won a meet-best four events and established three new ILH records in the girls division. Her record-breaking performances came in the 100 hurdles (14.66 seconds), pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches) and long jump (18-7). She also won the 300 hurdles, accounting for 40 points by herself. Her record in the 100 hurdles beat the previous mark of 14.77 set by her older sister, Madison Moku, in 2018.

In the race for the team championship, depth was a key to victory for both the Buff ‘n Blue boys and girls.

The Punahou boys won five events and placed second in five others to tally 155.5 points. Saint Louis also won five events and placed second with 135. Iolani was third with 106.

Punahou's boys victories came in the 200 (Kainoa Ronquilio), 1500 (Benjamin Brown),
110 hurdles (Tai Demura-Devore), 4x100 relay (Luke Sonson, Ean Kamau-Waikiki, Justice Wu, Travis Ross) and 4x800 relay (Cody Nagamine, Brandt Mooney, Joshua Kobayashi, Michael May).

Double-event winners in the boys division were Hawaii Baptist Academy senior Shane Kawakami-Williams (100 and 400), Kamehameha senior Kealiikupono Dikilato discus and shot put), Saint Louis junior Josiah Fetui (long jump and triple jump), and Saint Louis sophomore Sytyn Lasconia (300 hurdles and member of 4x400 relay).

The Punahou girls won three events and placed second in five others to finish with 155 points. Kamehameha was second with 115, and Iolani third with 98.5.

The Buff ‘n Blue girls event wins came in the triple jump (Laule'a Ah Mook Sang), the 4x100 relay (Xehlia Salanoa, Kelsey Ann Sato, Xevani Salanoa, Emily Sparks) and the 4x400 relay (Dalen Lau, Kylie Moniz, Nala Stojadinovic, Xevani Salanoa).

Double-event winners in the girls division were Iolani junior Mia Shepard (200 and 400) and HBA senior Ashlyn Kodama (1500 and 3000).

The top six finishers in each event earned points toward the team standings. The top performers earned spots in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Championships, which is scheduled for May 5-6 at War Memorial Stadium, Wailuku, Maui.
