Mid-Pacific got a pitching gem from the tandem of Reyn Kapua and Kai Tokumaru and just enough offense to win its sixth straight game, 3-1, over Punahou.
Kapua went 4 2/3 innings, allowing just one unearned run on two hits, striking out one and walking none to earn the victory, while Tokumaru came in to throw 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, scattering three hits to earn the save.
The Owls scored thrice in the fourth inning, as three straight singles to load the bases yielded the first score of the game on yet another single, this one by Christopher Cannon, that scored Coen Goeas. Kash Choy brought in Nathaniel Wagner for the second run of the game via sacrifice fly, and Brayson Sarae scored the final run of the inning on an error.
Punahou rallied in the fifth with a score of its own, with Javin Hamura bringing in Brendon Sato with a ground ball RBI single, and cobbled two straight singles with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to put the winning run at the plate, but Tokumaru induced a fly ball for the final out a batter later.
After a 1-3 start in league play, the Owls have been arguably the hottest in ILH Division I play, rattling off six straight wins to share a tie for second with Kamehameha at 7-3.
