K. Meacham 14 pts  4/5 FTs

No. 3 Iolani got a balanced scoring effort from its starters and erupted in the fourth quarter to put away No. 1 Saint Louis, 41-35, at the Father Bray Athletic Center Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders won their fourth-straight game to improve to 6-3 in the ILH Division I standings and avenged a 44-40 loss to the Crusaders on Jan. 10.

The Raiders' starters accounted for 38 of the team's 41 points.
Kaimana Lau Kong, Casey Lyons, and Luke Tobin each scored nine, Akila Indalecio added eight, and Aidan Wong rounded it out with three.

Saint Louis dropped their second consecutive game this week and fell to 6-3.

Iolani controls its own destiny and will need some help from Saint Louis on the final night of the season. A Raiders' win over Punahou (4-4) and a Saint Louis win over Maryknoll (7-2) on Tuesday, can force a three-way tie for first place.

"The message before the game was to focus on us. Everything else is out of our control but if we follow our foundation and principles from day one, that's all we can do at this point. I'm proud the way these guys battled back," Iolani coach Ryan Hirata said.

Pupu Sepulona, who leads the league in scoring at 16.9 points per game, was held to just three points for the game and sat most of the first half after picking up two fouls in the first quarter.

Keanu Meacham, a 5-foot-11 freshman picked up the scoring load and led all scorers with 14 points. Shancin Revuelto was the next player to score in double figures and finished with 10.

"There's no doubt, Pupu is one of the top players in the state as a sophomore. So everyone game plans around him. Whenever you can make it as hard as possible for him to get going, that's the goal for every team in the state. Other guys stepped up for them," Hirata said.

Iolani trailed by eight entering the fourth quarter but opened on an 8-0 run. Tobin hit a 3-pointer in the left corner and he kicked it out to Kyle Koga for another triple to tie the game at 30.

"I think we took care of the ball and we got some shots that we wanted. Guys like Luke and Kyle stepped up and hit some big shots," Hirata said.

Lau Kong was fouled on the left block and completed the 3-point play at the 4:03 mark to give the Raiders their first lead since the second quarter.

"He's always around the ball offensively and defensively. That was a huge momentum swing. Anytime you can get an and-one it's great but when you can finish the and-one to go up three. We tell our bigs and guards rebounding is a part of the game. I'm glad they're taking it to heart," Hirata said.

Indalecio continued the 13-0 scoring run as he hit a jumper to extend the lead by five and drew a foul on Jordan Posiulai, who fouled out with 2:03 to go and hit both free throws.

Brevin Hafalia hit a 3-pointer from the right wing for Saint Louis' first points of the quarter at the 1:49 mark and trailed 37-33. Sepulona came up empty at the free throw line and Lau Kong scored again near the paint to extend it to six.

Revuelto could not connect from 3 and Wong was fouled but split his free throws. Revuelto missed his free throw attempts and scored with 3.1 seconds left but it was too little, too late. Indalecio hit the first but missed the second free throw attempt to end the game.

"Collectively and defensively we followed our assignments in the fourth quarter. I was proud the way, two times we're down eight going into the fourth and find a way to battle back and stay positive and battle through which we want these guys to do," Hirata said.

Iolani led 12-9 and went up by five after Lyons' shot in the second quarter. Saint Louis tied the game at 14 following Posiulai's bucket and at 16 after Meacham's jumper in transition. Meacham gave the Crusaders the lead with a pair of free throws and Stone Kanoa cut to the lane to hit a floater. Lyons added a putback and trailed 20-18 going into halftime.

Tobin tied the game at 22 in the third quarter at the 4:04 mark, but the Raiders went scoreless the rest of the way as the Crusaders closed on a 7-0 run. Revuelto converted a layup off a steal and Sepulona scored his first and only points of the game off a 3-pointer from the top at the 1:19 mark. Revuelto banked in a putback before the buzzer for a 30-22 lead going into the final period.

Iolani hosts Punahou for the regular season finale at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday while Saint Louis hosts Maryknoll on the same night and time.
