WAIPAHU—Down, but never out.

No. 7 Iolani trailed by as much as six runs, but clawed back to stun No. 3 Kamehameha, 16-13, in a high-scoring affair at Hans L'Orange Park Monday.

The red-hot Raiders won their fifth-straight game to improve to 9-11 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I standings and in the process snapped the Warriors' five-game winning streak and handed Kamehameha their first loss of the double elimination tournament.

Iolani forced another game against Kamehameha (12-5-1) on Wednesday for the ILH tournament final at Central Oahu Regional Park 1 at 3:30 p.m. The winner of that game faces No. 2 Saint Louis on Friday at the same venue for the overall ILH championship and seeded berth.

"We're going to come out with the same intensity. Kamehameha is a really good squad and hot right now. We just have to be ready," Travis Ujimori said.

"They have been relentless all year and I'm proud of them for believing in each other," Iolani coach Kurt Miyahira said.

The Raiders churned out a season-high 20 hits and three different players had three hits. Ujimori went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs, Makani Tanaka was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and Brandon Wada was 3 for 6 with a double.

"We trust the guy in front of us. Our main motto coach Kurt (Miyahira) always says is to get the next guy up. Everyone believed in each other these past games," Ujimori said.

Iolani used six different pitchers but Wada pitched 1 2/3 innings and had a strikeout on 14 pitches to pick up the win and Trent Ihle got his second save of the season after scattering a hit and striking out two.

"They did a good job pounding the zone. Especially, Brandon his first appearance in a while and Trent throwing two days ago. He's been solid these past three games and we rely on him," Ujimori said.

Ujimori led off with a single and scored off of Tanaka's chopper for the Raiders' first run.

The Warriors answered back after Elijah Ickes drew a lead-off walk and Aiden Lobetos and Beau Sylvester followed up with back-to-back RBI doubles to take a 2-1 lead.

Brock Makishima flew out to right and Rylen Miyasaki struck out looking for the first two outs. Cadence Ueyama and Ujimori walked and Bruin Agbayani hit an opposite field single to score Ueyama and tied the game at 2.

Kamehameha went through the order and scored six runs on two hits. Dane Palimoo drew a walk and moved to second on Cody Branco's sacrifice bunt. Pono Nagano walked and Ickes brought in two runners with a double to left to force a Iolani pitching change.

Koa Siu took over for Tyler Young, but he walked Lobetos and Sylvester followed up with his second RBI with a sacrifice fly. Siu walked two more batters and Jace Souza cleaned up the bases with a double just inside the left foul line. Kaimana Lau Kong ended the inning to force a 6-3 putout, but the Warriors led big, 8-2.

The Raiders answered with six runs on seven hits in the top of the third to tie up the game. Kama Yamashiro struck out Tanaka and Wada grounded out to third. Faced with two outs, Jonah Velasco sparked the Raiders by sending a 2-2 offering to left field. Makishima and Miyasaki each followed up with RBI doubles. Ueyama singled and scored his second run off of Ujimori's triple to right. Agbayani plated Ujimori with a line drive and tied up the game after Lau Kong sent his single to right field.

"We were really confident these past games. Guys were really feeling good with their swing. Credit to them, they are doing an amazing job getting me in and in two-out situations," Ujimori said.

Branco and Nakano each had back-to-back hits and Ickes walked to load the bases. Branco scored off a wild pitch and after Lobetos struck out, Sylvester blasted a three RBI home run over the fence to make it, 12-8. Aukai Kea was out on a dropped third strike, but the Warriors extended the inning after Miecah Andres reached on an error. After a Souza single and Palimoo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Branco was beaned to bring in Andres for a 13-8 lead, but Kamehameha would not score again.

Wada doubled and Jonah Velasco walked and moved over a base on a wild pitch. Kaolu Holt issued another walk and Miyasaki plated Wada and Ujimori drew a bases-loaded walk for another run and Tanaka was hit by a pitch to bring in the fourth run of the frame to get within one, 13-12.

The Raiders settled down to make quick work of the Warriors in the fourth and both teams took turns shutting each other down in the fifth.

Iolani took the lead in the sixth and never looked back. Ujimori led off with a hard grounder to center and Lau Kong reached on a fielder's choice. Tanaka tied up the game at 13 with a fly ball to center field and added a pair of runs off of Velasco's sacrifice fly and Isaac Ahokovi's line drive to make it, 15-13.

"They kept battling and kept believing and putting good swings to see what happens. They have to continue to stay the course and not get too high or low and continue to believe in each other," Miyahira said.

Wada forced a ground out to second and fly out to Tanaka and Lobetos struck out looking in the sixth.

Pinch hitter Cole Ide set up Ujimori with a single to right and Ujimori moved on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt from Agbayani. After Lau Kong struck out, Tanaka added an insurance run by plating Ujimori in the seventh. A ground out to short ended the inning.

Ihle forced a high pop out and Makishima caught it for the first out. Kea singled to shallow right, but Ihle struck out Andres for the second out. Ihle walked Souza but fanned Palimoo to end the game.

The Warriors cycled through six different pitchers and Ethan Waikiki was tagged with the loss after two innings, scattering four hits, three runs were earned and tossed a strike.

Sylvester was 2 for 5 at the plate and Souza was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Kamehameha won both regular season matchups 3-1 on Mar. 8 and 10-0 in five innings on Apr. 11.
