ALIAMANU—Ezekiel Olie accounted for five total touchdowns and Aiea erupted for 30 points in the third quarter to pull away from Castle, 43-21, in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I contest at Radford's John E. Velasco Stadium Friday.

Na Alii put up 480 yards of total offense led by Olie who had 342 yards, three touchdowns, but was picked off four times and rushed for two more scores as it improved to 2-1 in the league standings.

"It was a good game and we came through. We executed in the second half. Give thanks to my linemen, they came through. I had time to get these throws down and the receivers catching the ball. Our coaches had a good game plan," Olie said.

The Knights suffered their third-straight loss to drop to 1-3 overall, 1-2 OIA.

Geronimo Ulgaran caught seven passes for 166 yards and had the game's opening score from 65 yards out just 12 seconds into the first quarter for a 7-0 lead following Bryson Boyea Quiton's kick.

"It was nice, but I don't know about setting the tone. I think our kids found out you cannot relax. Everyone in D1 is a good team. Castle showed they're capable," Aiea coach Wendell Say said.

"The linemen, they had perfect blocks on the screen. We practiced that every week and I'm glad it went full throttle," Ulgaran said of the touchdown.

Daunte Ching went 4 for 4 on their opening drive but was picked off by Bishop Foumai in the end zone. Four plays later, Kala Estacado-Matthews intercepted Olie and returned it 37 yards to tie the game at 7.

"Ezekiel is still growing. These guys came out of nowhere to make the picks, it seemed like they came out a made plays, I give them credit," Say said.

On their fifth offensive drive, Na Alii benefitted from an encroachment penalty on third-and-short, and a pass interference penalty and Boyea Quiton tacked on a 30-yard field goal for a 10-7 lead.

Boyea Quito added a 35-yard field goal 2 seconds before the half to give Na Alii a 13-7 lead.

"He just came back after three weeks. He was hurt, it's good to get him back with his leg," Say said.

Aiea added a safety three minutes into the second half after the snap on a punt attempt went into the end zone and Maddux Vilardi fell on it that jumpstarted their 30-point third quarter.

Following the safety, Na Alii added another touchdown to cap a six-play, 54-yard drive and Jayden Chanel hauled in a 25-yard pass from Olie on a fourth-and-4 to put Aiea up, 22-7.

"Second half, came in with a different mindset. Our linemen were blocking and the receivers were catching everything. I was relaxed in the pocket," Olie said.

"At halftime we told the kids, we have to cut down on the mistakes. We had to settle down," Say said.

On the ensuing kickoff, Coby Tanioka returned it 84 yards for six and Laurin Bunckenburgh's kick brought the Knights within eight.

Aiea answered by converting three first downs and Olie completed a 52-yard pass to Ulgaran to the Castle 1. Two plays later, Olie scored on a 1-yard keeper to make it, 29-14.

After the Knights went three-and-out, Kane Lorenzana returned it to the Castle 40 and on the next play, Olie threw a touchdown pass to Jheremie Cacpal, who added 98 yards on eight catches, and Ulgaran, who was the holder, threw a two-point pass to Chaysen Lopez for a 37-14 lead.

"For me, I just do the best for my team. Wherever my coaches want me to make the team better," Ulgaran said.

Castle responded with a four-play, 80-yard scoring drive that resulted in Tanioka's 63-yard touchdown from Ching. He caught six passes for 112 yards and finished with 248 all-purpose yards for the game. Ching finished with 171 yards on 14-of-32 passing.

Kaimana Lale-Saole rushed for a game-high 96 yards and ripped off a 66-yard run to the Knights 6 and two plays later, Olie finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown keeper for the final score of the night.

Aiea was 3 for 11 on third down conversions, 2 for 4 on fourth down and Castle went 2 for 10 on third downs overall.

Foumai had five solo tackles to go along with his interception and pass break up to lead Na Alii's defense

Jesse Reppuhn had four solo tackles, two for losses and an interception and Pekelo Poomaihealani had three solo tackles, one for loss and had the last interception in the fourth quarter for the Knights.

Aiea has another bye before facing No. 13 Waipahu (2-0 overall) on Nov. 27 and wraps up the OIA season against Kailua (0-4 overall, 0-3 OIA) on Dec 3.

Castle finishes off the OIA regular season with Waipahu and Kailua in that order, just a week earlier for each game.
