EWA BEACH  ̶  Kaniala Kalaola accounted for four total touchdowns as the fifth-ranked Sabers scored 34-unanswered points to drop No. 8 Farrington, 34-7, in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Open Division matchup at Campbell's field on Saturday.

Campbell was back in action since their lopsided win over Hilo on Aug. 4 and improved to 2-0 overall.

"We slowed it down a little so we don't beat up our kids and keep their legs. We practiced smarter, not so much physical. They were so hungry that we were overexerting ourselves instead of playing the game. Hopefully we got that out of our system and we played football the rest of the way," Campbell coach Darren Johnson said after his team overcame a slow start.

"I'm worried about every team in our conference. Every school has good players and there are no weak teams in our conference. It's an OIA counting game and we have to win those."

Since their opening game against Leilehua, the Govs dropped their second game in a row to fall to 1-2 overall.

Kalaola started the game with 14 yards on 2-of-9 passing, but went 6 of 10 the rest of the way and threw three touchdowns and an interception to finish with 172 passing yards. He also rushed for another score in the fourth.

"He let it (the game) come to him, but now he has to mature from that. We had (Krenston) Kaipo ready to go just in case. Anyone of them can do the job," Johnson said of his signal caller.

"I had to calm down to get my composure back. When I went back out there, I had to do me and trust myself. The game slowed down big time, we had to communicate out there," Kalaola said.

Kalaola had to trust that everything would fall into place, which it did.

"My coaches were talking to me and making me feel comfortable out there. They told me to trust myself, get the receivers the balls and trust in my line to block for me," Kalaola said.

Krenston Kaipo added 64 yards on 5-of-9 passing and a pick.

Farrington recycled Treshawn Kepa's interception in the end zone into their only points of the night. Richard Tagataese lateraled it to Chris Afe-Alaivanu, who threw it to Tony Paleafei for a 44-yard completion. Three plays later, Raymond Millare rushed for a 21-yard score to put the Govs ahead, 7-0.

Campbell answered with an eight-play scoring drive that resulted in Kalaola's 15-yard touchdown pass to Titus Mokiao-Atimalala to tie the game at 7.

Pokii Adkins-Kupukaa's 20-yard punt return took it to the Farrington 39 and after three-straight gains of six yards on the ground, Kalaola threw a 21-yard touchdown to Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala for a 14-7 lead.

After a Farrington punt, Campbell wasted little time as Kalaola threw a 65-yard touchdown to Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala, who finished with 93 receiving yards while brother Titus finished with 119 yards.

"We finally started clicking with each other. All I had to do was catch and throw, get my athletes the ball and they had to do the rest from there," Kalaola said.

The Govs went on a 14-play drive to get down to the Campbell 1, but a personal foul pushed them back, but made up for it with a pass interference penalty. Farrington could not punch it into the end zone as Taelase Gaoteote sacked Tagataese for an 8-yard loss to turn it over on downs.

"Our defense made a big stop and played behind it. We came right back and marched the field and scored. We controlled that sudden change," Johnson said.

"I was really excited for them to stop them short like that. Our defense is very good," Kalaola said of his defense.

Sky Lactaoen rushed for 110 yards on 16 attempts and scored on a 15-yard run early in the fourth after being set up by Adkins-Kupukaa's 60-yard completion off a lateral to Titus Mokiao-Atimalala. Kalaola's keeper resulted in a 12-yard rushing touchdown on a fourth-and-2 for the final points of the night. The Sabers outgained the Govs, 163-88 on the ground.

"Sky picked his spots and offensive line is coming into their own. They're getting better everyday. They're starting to come around," Johnson said.

"We want to switch it up and we want to run it too, our running game is really good. Our line was doing well blocking," Kalaola said.

Four different players on the defense registered a sack while Christian Broome had an interception.

Kepa and Wendell Alob each recorded interceptions for Farrington's defense.

Campbell travels to Raymond Torii Field to take on Waianae (0-3 overall) on Saturday, Aug. 25 while Farrington hosts Punahou (1-1 overall) on Aug. 24.
