MANOA — Jet Uechi's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Breyndon Nakamura for the game-winning run lifted No. 2 Mid-Pacific to a 7-6 walk-off win over No. 3 Iolani at Damon Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Owls notched their seventh win in eight games to improve to 14-3 on the season and advanced to Friday's Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I second-round tournament final.

The victory leaves them one win shy of reclaiming their first league crown since 2016, the last of a string of five consecutive ILH titles before missing out on the state tournament last season.

"Now that means that we have three chances to win the championship," Mid-Pacific coach Dunn Muramaru said.

Mid-Pac, which had already wrapped up a state tournament berth, won the league's first-round title and as the lone remaining unbeaten in the second round double-elimination tournament, it can afford to falter in each of its next two games before a potential winner-take-all playoff against the second-round winner for the overall ILH championship and the first-round bye at states that comes with it.

That is, if the Owls don't win the second round themselves

"Getting that state berth gave us the momentum going into the tournament that we're the number one seed so we just came out here and played ball," Uechi said.

Uechi, a senior left fielder, batted 2 for 3 and scored twice. He hit a two-run triple to score Micah Pi and Cade Yoshimura when Mid-Pacific sent eight batters to the plate and scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to pull ahead 6-3.

"I saw a fastball inside and I knew I was hunting a fastball first pitch," Uechi said. "I saw there was a fat gap between the first base line and the first baseman, so I just tried to do something and hit it and make something happen."

Iolani plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth and another in the fifth on Cade Yonamine's solo home run to even the score at 6-all.

However, Pi led off the bottom of the seventh with a first-pitch double over the head of Iolani right fielder Cade Yonamine. Cameron Ching then laid down a sacrifice bunt, but Raiders' pitcher Trevor Ichimura opted to try and get the runner at third. His throw was late and both base runners were safe.

Ichimura then issued an intentional walk to designated hitter Gabby Galamgam to load the bases with no outs for Uechi.

Uechi fouled off the first pitch from Ichimura before hitting a fly ball to left field that was caught by Iolani's Matt Inaba. However, Inaba's throw home was off line and Nakamura — who was inserted as a pinch runner for Pi — easily scored the game-winning run after tagging up from third base.

"I was just trying to score the winning run, do whatever I can," Uechi said. "I saw the infield, they were playing in because they wanted to get the double play and I just wanted to hit something over them."

Ichimura, the Raiders' ace, was tagged for eight hits on three days' rest. He walked three batters, struck out one and threw 89 pitches in 6 1/3 innings of work.

"He came back on three days rest and gave us all he had. That's all we can ask. I'm proud of him the way he battled," Iolani coach Kurt Miyahira said of Ichimura, who suffered his first loss since March 6 to fall to 6-2 on the season.

Mid-Pacific used three pitchers in the game. Starter Michael China lasted just 2 1/3 innings before being lifted for Matt Valencia. Neither factored into the final decision.

Shane Adams threw 2 2/3 innings of no-hit ball to get the win. He retired all eight batters he faced, including three strikeouts in his first appearance since he allowed a run on one hit with a walk in 1 1/3 innings of relief in a 9-6 loss to Saint Louis on April 13.

"I think China did a solid job in the beginning then Matt came in, he did his thing, and then Shane came in and shut them down," Uechi said. "Shane didn't pitch much during the season, but he came into a clutch situation and he threw lights out."

Muramaru agreed.

"They battled. That's something I never saw before," He said. "You know, we fall behind then come back. They just executed and the guys that came in and pitched today (in relief), we've hardly used them but they came in and did a good job."

Kyle Layugan was the only other Owls' hitter to pair hits. His RBI-double opened the scoring in the Mid-Pacific half of the third.

Iolani, which was shut out 1-0 and 6-0 in its first two meetings against the Owls this season, posted 12 hits from seven different players. Shaydon Kubo batted 3 for 4 with a double, RBI and a run scored, Aaron Ujimori went 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored and Micah Yonamine was 2 for 4. Cade Yonamine drove in a pair of runs in the loss.

"I'm happy we scored (six) runs. We went 14 innings against Mid-Pac and scored zero runs. That's a plus. That's something to build off of right?," Miyahira said. "We had our moments, we had our chances and we had our opportunities. We just gotta keep plugging away. Our boys battled. I'm proud of them. They battled and they'll be back."

The Raiders saw their seven-game win streak snapped and fell to 13-4-1. They will next play Thursday against the winner of Wednesday's loser's bracket game between Saint Louis and No. 7 Punahou.
