HALAWA — Beam me up, Scotty.

Saint Francis senior Scott McLeod caught a 48-yard touchdown pass with 1:10 left in regulation to lift the Saints over Damien, 15-14, in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II second round finale at Hawaiian Tel FCU Field at Aloha Stadium Saturday evening.

The Saints' victory forces a winner-take-all playoff game for the league crown next Friday between Saint Francis (8-3) and two-time defending ILH D2 champ Damien (8-3), who won the first round title. It will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season.

McLeod, who is 6-foot-2, beat one-on-one coverage down the left sideline and shook off a tackle inside the 10-yard line on the scoring play. His TD helped set up Lachmann Atoa's go-ahead PAT to help the Saints rally from a 14-8 third quarter deficit.

"I just knew it was the moment to shine," said McLeod. "That's what they call me, they call me ‘clutch' so I had to do whatever for the team. I put everything out on that play."

Saint Francis held a 8-6 lead at the half, but trailed after Marcus Faufata-Pedrina ran in a 5-yard TD and threw a 2-point conversion pass to Akila Arecchi at the 1:40 mark of the third quarter.

The Saints, who were flagged seven times for 97 yards in the second half, were unable to score on their next three possessions before getting the ball on their own 14 with 2:43 left in regulation. After three runs by Bubba Aina-Chaves, junior quarterback Bubba Akana threw a 11-yard pass to Shepard Kekahuna and a 15-yard pass to Samson Kaleikau before McLeod's TD.

"The game plan was to make the right reads and then when it came time to go to Scotty, we just got to him and trust him with all our hearts," Akana said on the game-winning drive.

McLeod's scoring play tied the game at 14, but the Saints were flagged for a personal foul when one of their coaches made contact with an official during the score. The penalty pushed the ensuing PAT attempt 15 yards back, but the Saints got break when Damien was flagged for roughing Saint Francis kicker Makana Poole. Atoa came in for Poole after the penalty and was good on the try to give Saint Francis the win.

After losing a 12-0 lead to Damien in last year's league title game and a 20-7 third quarter lead to the Monarchs in the first meeting between the two teams this season, Akana said rallying to top Damien meant a lot.

"They've always been our rival and this means a lot to be able to come back with a win two times in a row," said Akana. "Hopefully we can get back and get that championship."

Akana, who threw for 152 yards on eight completions, led Saint Francis to an early lead with a TD drive to start the game. Akana completed a 32-yard pass to Kekahuna on third-and-28 and found McLeod on the 2-point try to give the Saints a 8-0 lead at the 6:53 mark of the first quarter.

Both team struggled for the rest of the first half, but Damien was able to get on the board after Matthew Faufata-Pedrina blocked a 32-yard field goal by Poole. Arecchi scooped up the loose ball and returned it 76 yards for a Damien TD with 1:49 left in the second quarter. The ensuing PAT failed to keep Saint Francis in the lead.

Senior defensive back JT White had 12 and 1/2 tackles and an interception to lead the Monarchs in the loss.
