HALAWA — Chevan Cordeiro threw and rushed for a score and Jacob Tobias added three field goals to help top-ranked Saint Louis pull away from No. 5 Kamehameha, 23-12 in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I game at Hawaiian Tel FCU Field at Aloha Stadium on Friday.

Despite putting up 56 points last week against Narbonne (Harbor City, Calif.), the Crusaders (6-0 overall, 3-0 ILH) had its difficulties against Kamehameha's aggressive defense. Hoku Arias recorded three tackle for losses while Jonah Apo and Akalea Kapono each recovered fumbles. 

Saint Louis finished with 434 yards of net offense with 410 yards coming through the air. Cordeiro finished with 375 yards on 22-of-33 passing and threw a 4-yard touchdown to Kainalu Reyes-Hackney to finish a 12 play drive that started on their own 11 for a 7-0 lead.

Jonah Panoke led all receivers with five catches for 118 yards while Koali Nishigawa also added five catches for 109 yards. 

Kamehameha (3-4 overall, 0-4 ILH) forced three first-half turnovers. Kalamaku Kuewa intercepted Cordeiro and in the second quarter, the Crusaders lost two fumbles on consecutive offensive possessions, but the Warriors could not capitalize on each drive.

On their 11 offensive drives, the Warriors punted seven times.

Kalanikau Kamakawiwoole blocked Matthew Watkins's punt that set the Warriors up in prime field position at the Crusaders' 3 with 51 seconds to go. Kamehameha broke into the end zone four plays later on Boogie Yam's 1-yard sneak, but Nokeakua Nakachi-Isaacs missed the PAT as the Warriors trailed, 7-6 at halftime.

Cordeiro added a 6-yard rushing touchdown and Tobias booted three field goals from 32, 32, and 31 yards in the second half to help the Crusaders pull away for good.

The Warriors had a chance to potentially tie the game but Thomas "Boogie" Yam was intercepted in the end zone by Kamoi Latu. Yam finished the game with 238 passing yards and threw a 4-yard touchdown to Braden Akima (75 receiving yards) late in the fourth quarter. 

Saint Louis finishes off the ILH regular season against Punahou (5-1 overall, 2-1 ILH). Kamehameha has a bye before the second round tournament.
