Three Hawaii players get draft calls

Three players from Hawaii were picked on the second day (rounds 3 to 10) of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday.

KJ Harrison, a 2014 All-Hawaii First Team catcher out of Punahou ('14), was selected in the third round (84th overall) by the Milwaukee Brewers. He also was drafted out of Punahou in 2014 by the Cleveland Indians in the 25th round.  Though he plays first base for the College World Series-bound Beavers, he was drafted as a catcher, which he has played in previous seasons at OSU.

Ryley Widell, a 2015 All-Hawaii Second Team selection, was picked in the seventh round by the Minnesota Twins (196th overall) out of Central Arizona JC. The left-handed pitcher is a graduate of King Kekaulike ('15).  He attended Washington State out of high school before transferring to the JC. He has signed a letter of intent to North Carolina.

Pomona-Pitzer second baseman Tanner Nishioka (Iolani '13) was picked in the ninth round (281st overall) by the Boston Red Sox.
