PEARL CITY — There was no shortage of dramatics here.

Cheyne Obara drove in sister Darian Obara with an RBI single to cap a six-run seventh and No. 4 Pearl City rallied to a thrilling 8-7 win against No. 3 Mililani Saturday at the Chargers' diamond.

"It's an amazing feeling," said winning pitcher Tyanna Kaialii, beneficiary in the win column because of the rally. "Any pitcher put in that situation definitely feels stressed, but I knew my team had my back and was going to come through for me."

It all happened after Mililani sent 10 batters to the plate in a six-run sixth to take a commanding 7-2 lead entering the home seventh.

"Five runs," Mililani coach Rose Antonio said referring to her team's lead entering the seventh. "Hard to swallow when you're up that much."

With the win the Chargers (9-2) clinched the top seed for Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I West. Pearl City still has a makeup with Waianae, but may not have to play it as it will have no bearing on seeding for any of the affected teams.

"It's just one of our three goals," Tyanna Kaaialii said of winning the division's top seed. "Now we have to get the other two (OIA title and state title)."

The Trojans (9-3) had already clinched the second seed before the game based on the quality of wins tiebreaker. They needed to win to clinch the top seed. The Chargers and Trojans draw first-round byes for the 12-team OIA tournament, which starts Wednesday. The top six advance to the state tournament. See fact box for tiebreaking explanation.

"We still got the tournament," Antonio said. "We still have to move forward, keep practicing hard and get ready for the tournament because that's the most important (aspect). That's what gets you into states."

Trailing 7-2 entering the bottom of the seventh on their senior day, the Chargers cashed in on the Trojans' wildness in the circle. Misha Carreira walked the first two batters of the inning and allowed two singles - the second driving in a run - and walked a third for force in another run before giving way to Cheyenne Ardona, who walked two batters to force in two more runs to make it 7-6. Carreira returned and gave up a sacriice fly to Haley-Alexis Yamaguchi to tie the game at 7. Kaaialii hit a shot toward second base, where second baseman Maya Yoshiura made a diving stop and crawled to tag the second base bag for a force to put runners at the corners with two out. Cheyne Obara fell behind 1-2 and fouled off four pitches before hitting a hard grounder just by shortstop Tarah Aniya to drive in Darian Obara for the dramatic finish.

"I was just thinking I had to keep my composure and just get on top of the ball," Cheyne Obara said. "

The Chargers had not drawn a walk the first six innings, so coach Obara had a plan for his hitters in the seventh.

"Earlier in the game, we were swinging at all the borderline pitches," coach Obara said. "We told them to try to lay off those borderline pitches and make Misha come to us. It turned out those borderline pitches we were swinging at were balls, which it ended up being (in the seventh) so that's the adjustment we made."

But the drama really started earlier in the game.

With the game still scoreless between starting pitchers Carreira and Kaaialii, the Chargers had first and third with two out with Shannon Pascua-Stanton at the plate. On an 0-1 pitch, Kaaialii lost her footing while delivering her pitch (a ball) and slipped to the ground. She had to be helped off the field with a sprained ankle. At first, the Chargers brought out Iriana Maikui to warm up, but later made position changes and brought shortstop Darian Obara to pitch. She retired Pascua-Stanton on a grounder to short to end the threat.

"There was a hole in the front of our mound and I just kind of twisted hard on it," Kaaialii explained. "Just a minor sprain. I just had to suck it up and come back for my team."

How the tiebreaker works:

Pearl City 9-2: Vs. Mililani (1-1), vs. Campbell (2-0), vs. Leilehua (1-1). Mililani and Campbell each has nine wins for a total of 27 points, but eight from the Leilehua win for 35 points.

Mililani 9-3: Vs. Pearl City (1-1), vs. Campbell (1-1), vs. Leilehua (1-1) for a total of 26 points.

Campbell 9-3: Vs. Pearl City (0-2), vs. Mililani (1-1), vs. Leilehua (2-0) for a total of 25 points.

Even if Pearl City forfeits the Waianae game, the tiebreakers would not affected.

The Chargers took a 2-0 lead on Darian Obara's two-run double in the bottom of the third.

Kaaialii, though, returned to the circle for the fourth. She labored in the fourth and fifth innings with two hit batsmen and a walk, as well as an RBi single bt Merilis Rivera, but escaped both jams with inning-ending double plays, but held a 2-1 lead through five.

But the Trojans sent 10 batters to the plate in a six-run sixth. Jerae Keliikoa's RBI single tied the game at 2 before pinch hitter Katie Carlos drew a walk as did Aniya, Kaaialii's seventh and eighth walks of the game. Yoshiura followed with a two-run single to put Mililani ahead, 4-2. Rivera then hammered a three-run homer to center to make it 7-2. Markie Okamoto singled, but Pascua-Stanton flied out to center to end the inning.

Pearl City got the first two runners on in the sixth, but failed to score. The Trojans got their lead-off hitter on to start the top of the seventh, but also failed to score.

The Chargers then batted around in the bottom of the seventh. It began with Cheyne Obara leading off with a walk and scoring the first run of the inning and ending with her driving in the winning run, which was her sister, Darian.
