Takenaka returns as Waipahu baseball coach, again

For the second time in as many seasons Milton Takenaka has taken over as Waipahu's baseball coach for Jared Abreu.

Abreau said he could not comment on the nature of an investigation until it was complete.

Athletic director Stacie Nii said also she could not comment on the reason for the change. Takenaka coached Wednesday's game at Kapolei. The Hurricanes won, 4-3. The Marauders are 2-2 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division.

Takenaka, who is on the school's security staff, said Wednesday was his first game back as coach. He also filled in for Abreu during last year's state tournament on Maui. At that time, Nii told ScoringLive that Abreu did not make the trip and did not elaborate further.

Takenaka retired as Waipahu's baseball coach after 29 seasons in 2014. He led the Marauders to OIA titles in 1985, 2009 and 2012. Waipahu also won a Division II title in 2012.

In an unrelated matter, Nii said that Nadine Villarmia has retired as the school's girls' varsity basketball coach. Villarmia became Waipahu's head coach in 2002.

The school is seeking her replacement. Interested parites can contact Nii at [email protected] or call her at 307-9571.
