Shandon Hopeau's penalty kick in the first minute of overtime gave the Hurricanes (11-3-1) a 2-1 walk off victory over the third-seeded Waveriders (13-1-2).
Hopeau, a senior forward, tied it at 1 on his first goal in the 13th minute after Ari Mench put Kealakehe, the Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion, on the board in the very first minute.
His two scores on the afternoon also stretched Hopeau's state-leading total to 31.
Kapolei, which finished fourth in the Oahu Interscholastic Association tournament, will appear in the semifinals for the first time since 2013, when it finished fourth. It had lost in the quarterfinal round in each of the past two years.
The unseeded Hurricanes will play top-seeded Kalani at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Waveriders will face Baldwin in a fifth-place semifinal.
