MAKIKI — William Prescott intercepted a pair of passes, including one that he returned for a 72-yard touchdown, and Challen Faamatau ran in two short touchdowns to lead Farrington to a 28-0 win over Campbell Saturday night.

It was the Governors' second win over the Sabers in a three-week span, this one before a home crowd of about 1,000 fans on a rainy night at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium, advancing them into next week's semifinal round of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I tournament.

Farrington, ranked ninth in the ScoringLive/Hawaiian Electric Power Rankings, improved to 7-2 on the year and will face fourth-ranked Kahuku at 5 p.m. Friday at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium. The fourth-ranked Red Raiders (9-0) cruised to a 56-10 quarterfinal win over No. 8 Kapolei Saturday night. Sixth-ranked Waianae (7-2) will meet third-ranked Mililani (8-1), the defending league and state champion, in the late semifinal.

"The kids were finally focused at practice; I think that was the main difference," Farrington coach Randall Okimoto said. "Realizing that it was playoff football and that we cannot make as many mistakes — we still made mistakes — but I think the focus was better in practice."

The Governors, who had an opening-round bye last weekend as the Blue Division's second seed, were far from perfect on offense. They overcame a pair of turnovers and were held more than 100 yards under their season average, but capitalized on several Sabers miscues.

"I think throughout the week coach really talked to us about executing every single play," said Faamatau, who scored all three of his team's touchdowns the last times the teams faced off. "He's been telling us day-by-day that he can call any play, it all depends on how we execute it. Today, us offensively-wise, we started a little bit slow, we had to get in our rhythm, but that's something that we've got to fix. We have to come straight out banging and now start slow, we just have to prepare better."

Quarterback Bishop Rapoza threw for 142 yards on 11-of-16 passing, but was picked off twice. His first intercepted gave Campbell the ball in the red zone. However, the visitors turned it over on downs just four plays later. Campbell's first two possessions ended with failed fourth-down conversions inside the Farrington 20-yard line.

"We made a lot of mistakes in the red zone," Sabers' coach Amosa Amosa said. "We wanted to throw the ball against these guys and we thought we could, but we missed some reads here and there and left our defense out on the field too long. We just shot ourselves in the foot too many times."

Faamatau's first touchdown — a 1-yard plunge — capped an 11-play, 87-yard Farrington drive, which included a 33-yard pass from Andrew Aneki to Faasisina Masalosalo on a fake punt.

Campbell's next drive was a three-and-out and ended with a punt of negative yardage, setting up Faamatau 3-yard touchdown run. The junior running back stretched the play to the outside and beat several defenders to the right pylon, giving the Govs a 12-0 lead with 9:04 left in the first half.

Four plays into the third quarter, Prescott's second pick resulted in another Farrington touchdown. He stepped in front of a deep pass down the left sideline by Kawika Ulufale before navigating his way through a number of defenders-turned-blockers en route to the end zone. Rapoza's pass on the 2-point conversion was no good.

"Just trying to make a gamechanger for our team," said Prescott, a senior cornerback. "Our offense was struggling so I tried to help them out."

After another Sabers' three-and-out, the Govs manufactured a 13-play, 70-yard drive that culminated with Finau Walter's 27-yard field goal that stretched their lead to 21-0 with 4:09 remaining in the third quarter.

Farrington added a score a few minutes later when Rapoza connected with Kingston Moses-Sanchez on a 43-yard touchdown pass two plays after a failed Campbell fake punt. Walter tacked on the PAT to close out the scoring late in the third quarter.

Okimoto was especially pleased with his team's defensive effort in the game.

"They're playing with confidence, which is great going into the semifinals, so we've just got to keep it up because we're facing a good Kahuku team," Okimoto said. "Hats off to Campbell. I know they're were going through some struggles as far as running to practice — like us, not having a field — so hats off to coach Amosa and them for struggling through that because we know exactly how that feels."

The Sabers were held to just 162 yards of total offense, including minus-22 rushing yards, and were just 4 of 14 on third downs, including 0 of 6 after halftime, and 1 of 6 on fourth downs. Ulufale completed 23 of his 45 pass attempts for 184 yards, but was intercepted three times. Slotback Noah Esprecion had game-highs of 14 receptions for 131 yards in the loss.

"Our defense did a hell of a job, starting from our d-line, linebackers, to our safeties," Faamatau said. "They've been really studying coach Amosa's plays. We've been really taking time on film. Most of our practice was really in the classroom, just really learning what we had to do to get this win, because those little things can hurt us, too."

Farrington had six sacks, including two each by Tainano Gualua and Foi Sila. Kody Leiu also intercepted a pass in the win.

Two weeks ago the teams met in the regular-season finale for both teams, with the Govs winning, 21-14.

Campbell, the sixth-seed from the Blue Division, end the season at 2-7.

"I can't be more proud for our kids and the kind of season that we had this year," Amosa said. "I know my boys played their hearts out tonight — all of our players — and I'm very grateful that even though we had a tough season, we were able to make the playoffs, get to the quarterfinals and we learned. They learned and hopefully it's going to be a great learning lesson for us for next year."
