HALAWA— No. 3 Saint Louis overwhelmed Fagaitua (American Samoa), 55-6, in a preseason game at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium on Friday night. The Crusaders come into the 2015 season ranked third in the ScoringLive/Hawaiian Electric Division I Power Rankings.

"For them to be here this long and it was a big sacrifice on their part to spend three weeks," said Saint Louis coach Cal Lee, on Fagaitua.

Tua Tagovailoa went 9-of-13 passing for 183 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in the first half. Leelan Oasay had three catches for 36 yards and two touchdowns and Ronson Young added five catches for 78 yards and touchdown.

"The level of competition and the speed of the game, if we miss one, they make those big plays don't miss those tackles, it will help us out. Back home we are smash mouth, but we have to get to the point of playing spread and uptempo," said Fagaitua coach Suaese "Pooch" Taase.

"Being that it's the first preseason game, it's a good experience for our guys. It was a fresh start for us for this season. We did pretty good, but we have a lot to work on, especially ball placement and route running," said Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa found Oasay twice for 10 and 12 yards respectively to take an early 14-0 lead. Tagovailoa's dump off pass to Jonathon Manalo went to the house for 69 yards and he found Young for 36 yards to make it, 28-0.

Despite the score, the Crusaders had about 150 penalty yards.

"You're looking for the perfect game and you never have and never be satisfied. We looked good at times, but we made mistakes and we have to correct it if we want to give us a chance," said Lee.

Raemos Fano threw a 37-yard touchdown to Malaki Peko Thompson with 7:03 remaining, but the run failed in the second quarter that turned out to be the Mighty Vikings' only score.

Jahred Silofau added a 2-yard touchdown and Tanielu Evaimalo scooped up a fumble and returned it 20 yards as the Crusaders took a commanding 41-6 halftime lead.

The 35-point difference evoked the mercy rule and Saint Louis put in their backups in the second half. Dylan Silva scored a 3-yard touchdown and backup quarterback Chevan Cordeiro threw a 19-yard touchdown to Tosh Kekahuna for the last score of the game. Cordeiro finished the game 6-of-7 passing for 78 yards.

The Mighty Vikings, who had about 43 players suited up, also gave their JV players reps in the second half.

"The only way to learn is to fail, we failed tonight, but we will learn from it and watch the film going on forward. It was a learning experience," said Taase.

"They played well and played their hearts out, it was a hard fought game and were a good opponent," said Tagovailoa, on Fagaitua.

Jalen Saole had two interceptions and a fumble recovery to lead the Crusader defense. Jacob Tobias went 7 of 8 for extra points.

The Crusaders host Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) at Aloha Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 29. The Vikings depart for American Samoa on Monday.
