Hawaii Baptist Academy swept Hana, 25-8, 25-15, 25-11 in the New City Nissan/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Volleyball Division II State Championships Neil S. Blaisdell Center on Saturday evening to claim their fifth-straight Division II crown, seventh overall.

"It's huge, just to have the opportunity to come here again and win, is huge for us and we took it for what it is and appreciate it," said Isaac Liva.

The Dragons, from the Maui Interscholastic League, make their first state tournament appearance since 2008 and reached their first-ever title game. It was quite an accomplishment for Hana as their roster only has eight players, two of them are seniors.

"To come here again, it's awesome. In the beginning it was a bigger stage for all of us, as we got to second and third set we got loose and we have to thank our crowd for getting us going," said first-year Hana coach Kimo Helekahi.

"It's really special and they are a real community team and we're real fortunate to have the opportunity to play them. They play with so much heart and passion. It's great to watch them to see how much their community embraces them," said Obrey, on Hana.

Isaac Liva led the Eagles with 18 kills, Caleb Fisher added 13 kills and nine digs and BJ Hosaka had 39 assists.

"It feels great going out on a win and I really love my teammates and I would like to thank coach Teoni. My hitters make me look really good and I just put up the it makes my job look easy when you have guys like Caleb, Isaac and Brett," said BJ Hosaka, one of three seniors on the team. Hosaka won all four years during his tenure with the Eagles.

Hana scored first, but the Eagles went on a 13-0 run to force the Dragons to call time out. Hana made a brief rally, but HBA pulled away for good and closed out on a 7-1 run to take the first set handily, 25-8.

"It was good for us, earlier this season we struggled with starting off well and you can see the progression and we started off strong and stuck with it," said Liva.

"He's an amazing player and I was trying to get my blockers to set up so we can have him hit angle, he did, he hit angle but he was unstoppable," said Helekahi, on Liva.

The Dragons hung with the Eagles and kept it within four, 13-9 after Chasen Kanakaole's kill but HBA started pulling away to push the lead to double digits. The Dragons made a 3-0 run, but it wasn't enough as HBA claimed the second set, 25-15.

"We had to make sure we had to get out to a big lead because if they were with us they would give us a lot of problems and we were fortunate enough to do so in the beginning," said Obrey.  

Hana led early briefly in the third set and capitalized on back-to-back Eagle attack errors to trail, 10-8. But HBA rallied and outscored the Dragons 15-3 to put it out of reach.  The match took 57 minutes.

Jordan Redo-Rost led Hana with six kills and 10 assists and Noah Hoopai-Feliciano had four kills and led the team with six digs. The Dragons showed their tenacity on the floor, digging up 25 balls.

"They dug a lot of balls and I think they have good chemistry," said Hosaka.
