Second-seeded Campbell rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Pearl City, 3-2, in a game decided by penalty kicks, 5-3, Saturday night at Kunuiakea Stadium at Kamehameha-Kapalama.

The Sabers will play Iolani in a semifinal 5 p.m. Friday at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.

In the PKs, the Sabers went up first against Pearl City goalie Gomes. Destiny Souza, Asia Canon, Cheyenne Smith, Lorenzo and Cabudol all made their kicks. The first three made their shots to the left. Lorenzo hit the top right and Cabudol clinched the game with a shot to the right.

Pearl City's Suwa and Haley Honda made their kicks against Campbell keeper Kiley Haraguchi. But Haraguchi stopped Randi Fontes' shot. Bethany Narazeno kept the Chargers alive with her kick, but Pearl City's fifth shooter didn't have to come up when Cabudol made it 5-3.

"I was reading the way her eyes were looking," Haraguchi said of her save.

Cabudol's direct kick from 22 yards tied the match a 2 in the 79th minute.

The Chargers took a 1-0 lead into the half on Piper Collado's goal from 17 yards four minutes into the game. Then just two minutes into the second half, Nikki Suwa scored on a penalty kick to give the Chargers a seemingly commanding 2-0 lead.

But the Sabers quickly responded when Lorenzo scored from six yards from the right side at the 45th minute.

The Chargers nursed the lead until Cabudol's direct kick tied the match.

Earlier in the first half, Lorenzo had a chance to pull her Sabers into a tie when she was awarded  penalty kick. The Chargers switched starting goalie Sidney Young for fullback Gomes. Lorenzo's shot hit the cross bar against Gomes, who is taller than Young.

The Sabers started the game with some adversity with five players unavailable. Kylie-Rae Sabino and Jayelyn Chargulaf suffered injuries from the OIA championship. Alexis Domingo had been out most of the season and goalie Brittney Copp got injured in the regular-season finale, Leong said. Midfield Chardonnay Curran was on a HYSA event on Arizona. Leong said her parents had purchased the plane ticket way in advance. Four of those players played in the Sabers' 3-1 win against Pearl City during the regular season.

"They knew they had to fight a little harder," Campbell coach Ryan Leong said. "I just told them to dig deep. It's our first time here. All we ask of them is to player their best."

For Haraguchi, this was her first penalty-kicks situation after playing forward most of the season and was the team's second-leading scorer. Haraguchi said the transition wasn't that difficult.

"It was pretty easy because I was a forward," said Haraguchi, an OIA West all-star forward last season. "I kind of know how people shoot."

"For Kiley, I'm so proud of her," Leong said. "She took the initiative because at the beginning of the season, she told me if I ever needed a goalie, I will step up to be goalie. I'm so proud of her and she did really good tonight."

For Lorenzo, her goal in the PK session was redemption for the PK she missed during regulation. She was hesitant at first when Leong called for his five PK kickers.

"I was actually nervous because during the game, I missed the PK and it was 'Aw, I don't want to take it again," Lorenzo said. "My coach just said, 'Everybody deserves a second chance.' When he said that, I said, 'OK, I'm going to go in for my team."

It was a tough loss for the Chargers, who are in their 31st tournament, as they had a 2-0 lead early in the second half.

"We've had hard times shutting things down," Pearl City coach Frank Baumholtz III said. "We just have to finish. I have a young bunch of kids. I'm proud of them. We had seven JV players, if we had uniforms, we could've brought them up for the state tournament. The kids that were here played their hearts out.

"It should teach them they're not as good as they could be. They have to get better and they have to start tomorrow, just doing pushups, doing light weights, just fundamental things to strengthen their physical stature and strength."
