Leilehua's Siavii can inflict damage both ways

Leilehua safety Russell Siavii had just over a fourth of the catches that teammate and wide receiver Jeremiah Andrade had in Friday's 40-7 OIA Red quarterfinal win against Moanalua. But Siavii's feat was just as impressive.

Andrade had 15 receptions for 167 yards and two touchdowns. Siavii had four interceptions to help his team hold Na Menehune to one score.

It might have been a case of being at the right place at the right time, but look for Siavii to take on more passes in the upcoming games. And not necessarily with interceptions.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior is one of the better athletes for Leilehua. In red zone situations, it's not uncommon to see Siavii, as well as defensive end Penitito Melei, line up as tight ends. Siavii already has a touchdown catch this season in the Mules' 32-13 win against Campbell. He also returned an interception for a TD in that game.

The use of Siavii and Melei as tight ends gives opponents another dimension to ponder. A lot of attention is already paid to Andrade, Allen Racette and Mykal Peyton. Leave the two tight ends unattended usually means another TD pass for QB Kenan Sadanaga.

The OIA Red semifinals get underway Friday at Aloha Stadium. The Mules will play Kahuku at 4:30 p.m. and Campbell will play Farrington at 7:30 p.m.
