Kauai improved to 2-1 (2-3 overall) in Kauai Interscholastic Federation play with a 8-7 win over Waimea Saturday afternoon at Hanapepe Ballpark. Waimea fell to 1-4 and 0-4 in league play.

The Red Raiders were held scoreless until Aaron Renaud's 10-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Henry late in the fourth quarter. Renaud's sprint around left end on the two-point conversion proved to be the difference in the one-point game.

Waimea's lone score of the game came in the second quarter on sophomore defensive back Cody Taniguchi's fumble recovery in the end zone after a failed Red Raider punt attempt.

Kauai's win sets up a pivotal matchup with third-ranked Kapaa (3-1, 3-0 KIF) next weekend. A Kapaa victory will put the Warriors in the driver's seat for the league crown and state berth. The Red Raiders have won the KIF title in 10 of the past 11 years.
