Micah Kerisiano 73 yd 1 TD

Kaiser running back Jensen McDaniel rushed for five touchdowns and Kaiser rolled over McKinley, 51-14, Friday night at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.

The Cougars (2-2) denied the Tigers (0-5) their first win in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Red by moving the tempo all game long.

"We kept uptempo offense, just kind of gassed out the defense, so it worked to our advantage," said McDaniel, who rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries. He scored on runs of 12, 5, 4, 8 and 10 yards.

He also led the Cougars with nine receptions for 89 yards.

"Doesn't matter to me," he said of his double duty. "Any way I can help, I'll be happy doing that."

McDaniel accounted for half of quarterback Kalawaia Judd's completions in 28 attempts. Judd passed for 288 yards and two TDs, including a 34-yarder to Destin Moss and a 22-yarder to Jordan Kannys.

The Cougars stormed to a 21-0 lead, scoring on three of their first five series. McDaniel set the pace by scoring on Kaiser's first series on a 12-yard run. Matt Sai's PAT made it 7-0 one minute, 16 seconds into the game.

After Kaiser's second series was stalled by an interception by Micah Kerisiano, the Cougars took advantage of a short punt that allowed them to start at McKinley's 28. Three plays later, Judd hit Moss for the 22-yard TD to make it 14-0 with 5:14 in the first quarter.

Just before the quarter ended, Justin Ikei had an apparent 47-yard punt return for a TD nullified by a block to the back penalty. Still, Kaiser had good field position at McKinley's 37. After a 32-yard completion by Judd to Andrew Kaufusi at the Tigers' 5, McDaniel scored on a 5-yard run to make it 21-0 to start the second quarter.

McKinley scored on its ensuing series. The big play came when the Tigers converted a fourth-and-1 at the Kaiser 44 on 5-foot-11, 220-pound fullback Solomone Lopes-Liutolo's 43-yard run to the 1. Two plays and a penalty against each team later, he scored on a 1-yard run to pull McKinley to 21-7 with 6:01 in the half.

But the Cougars added two more scores sandwiched around Keanu Pratt's 12-yard TD pass to Kerisiano with 23 seconds left in the half.. The first came on McDaniel's third rushing TD of the half on McDaniel's 4-yard run with 3:08 and on Sai's 32-yard field goal with no time showing on the clock that gave Kaiser a 30-14 lead at the break.

McKinley took the second-half kickoff, but lost the ball quickly when Cody Kim intercepted a Pratt pass at the Mckinley 28. The Cougars cashed that turnover in on McDaniel's 8-yard TD run with 7:38 in the third quarter to make it 37-14.

The Cougars added two more TDs in the fourth quarter with their fast-paced offense. McDaniel rushed for his fifth TD on a 10-yard run with 8:36 in the game to start the mercy rule running clock.

After an interception by Keliionuuanu Colton's interception off Pratt, the Cougars rounded out the scoring with Judd's 22-yard TD pass to Kannys with 6:22 in the game.

McKinley labored all night, registering five first downs in each half. The Cougars not only had two interceptions, but added three sacks, two by Ocean Ku-Au and another by Nick Lebeck. Lineman Manase Palu added two tackles for lost yardage.

"We just don't execute," McKinley coach Joe Cho said. "That's what happens when you don't' execute offensively and defensively."

The Tigers will look for their first win against Waipahu Saturday night at Roosevelt. The Cougars will host unbeaten Kahuku on Friday night.
