Services for Skippa Diaz set for Sept. 26


Services for the legendary Farrington football coach Edward Skippa Diaz is set for 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at Central Union Church, Farrington athletic director Harold Tanaka said.

Viewing will begin at 11 a.m.

Diaz passed away Aug. 30 after battling stage-four esophageal cancer the past four years. He was 70.

Diaz coached Farrington from 1982 to 1998 and led his alma mater to its only Oahu Interscholastic Association title in 1990. He also coached at Waialua from 1973 to 1974 and was an assistant at other schools. His career coaching record was 108-90-5.

Diaz was an Interscholastic League of Honolulu all-star lineman for Farrington in 1961. He went on to play at Oregon State and in the Canadian Football League.
