Saint Louis' Lee has moderate success against Mainland teams

Saint Louis coach Cal Lee will face his 16th Mainland opponent Friday when the Crusaders take on defending California Interscholastic Federation Open Division champion St. John Bosco of Bellflower, Calif.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.

Back with the Crusaders (0-1) for the first time in 13 seasons, Lee will face a team that is ranked No. 2 in preseason by USA Today. But he has been there and done that.

In the 1990s, the Shawn Akina Classic brought these highly reputable football powers from the Mainland to play against Hawaii's best. Saint Louis had its share of success. Lee is 13-1-1 against Mainland teams. Some came here nationally ranked. The only one that beat Saint Louis under Lee's command was Canyon Country of California, which beat the Crusaders, 40-0, snapping the their state record 55-game winning streak.
