Keenan Lum took matters into his own hands Friday afternoon.

The senior pitcher tossed a complete game and hit an RBI double to lead Kamehameha to a 5-2 win at Iolani. The Warriors, who are ranked fifth in the ScoringLive/OC16 Baseball Power Rankings, improved to 4-4-2 with their third win over the Raiders this season.

"it was a great, great performance by him," Kamehameha coach Billy Pieper said of Lum, who scattered seven hits and struck out five in his first start on the mound this season. "He's been tender, so we've been kind of nursing him along, but I'm glad to see how much he wanted it and obviously he displayed a lot of heart out there and basically kept delivering. I welcomed him back today."

It was just Lum's third appearance in a game as a pitcher this year. He had two scoreless relief outings with mixed results (three hits and two walks allowed in 3.0 innings pitched).

"I felt good coming back from the injury," said Lum, who has been dealing with an elbow injury. "My arm just felt great today and I felt like I could command some of my pitches and it just happened. "

Lum's command was spot on as he threw just 91 pitches — 55 of them for strikes — and walked just two batters. He struck out three of the first five batters he faced and retired the final seven batters he faced.

"I'm really proud of Keenan," said Warriors catcher Ethan Rosehill, whose solo homer in the top of the fourth tied the game at 2-2. "He just came back from an injury and this is his first major start after a couple relief outings. I'm really proud of what he did, going seven strong for us and getting the victory for us."

The game was still tied to start the sixth inning, but not for long. Makana Arakaki singled to lead off and advanced to third on a double to center by Rosehill. William Young then walked to load the bases before Lum put the Warriors ahead for good when lined a 1-0 pitch for an RBI-single to right field.

"I just trying to see anything up and get a sac fly or get a run in," Lum said. "He just threw me one (inside) and something happened."

It was Lum's first plate appearance — he was hitting for himself — after designated hitter Kahoea Akau went 0 for 2 with a strikeout earlier.

"They put the righty up on the mound," Pieper said of Raiders' reliever Reid Kimura. "(Lum's) been having decent at-bats, especially against righty's, so we figured he would give us a good shot."

Kody Cacal brought home another run to make it 4-2 one batter later on a four-pitch, bases-loaded walk. Ulu Farm, the courtesy runner for Lum, scored the final run thanks to a two-out Iolani fielding error.

"Iolani's a tough squad," Pieper said. "Look at their line up. They're one of the most dangerous hitting lineups, i think, in the ILH, so to beat them three times is obviously very good and the boys obviously appreciate beating a good team three times."

The Warriors scored in the top of the first when Matt Yokota drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on an RBI-triple by Codie Paiva. The Raiders tied it in the bottom of the second on an RBI-single by Caleb Duhay that scored Corey Nakakura. Iolani took a 2-1 lead one inning later when Pikai Winchester scored on a two-out double to left field by Joshua Inaba.

Rosehill's home run in the top of the fourth broke a string of five straight Warriors' batters retired. He hit a 1-1 pitch to the opposite field that cleared the right field fence.

"It was an outside pitch and I went with it," Rosehill said. "I got enough of it, but I definitely did not think it was going out off the bat. Fortunately, it did."

Lum said Rosehill's long ball provided a much-needed boost to the lineup.

"That was pretty big for our team," Lum said. "It got the momentum going back towards out side and it got us going. We knew this game wasn't over and we just took it from there."

Kamehameha had lost consecutive games and three of its last four. It plays Pac-Five at 9 a.m. Saturday at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.

Iolani, which is ranked fourth in the SL/OC16 Power Rankings, had won five of its last six games, including back-to-back shutouts in its two games earlier this week. It hosts Punahou at 9 a.m. Saturday.
