After seeing its four-game win streak snapped Thursday, the Leilehua softball team will try to get back in the win-column when they visit three-time league champion Campbell Saturday morning.
The Mules (5-3), ranked 10th in this week's ScoringLive/OC16 Softball Power Rankings, are coming off a 6-4 home loss against Pearl City Thursday. They fell behind the Chargers 3-0 after four innings, but tied it with two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth before allowing three runs in the seventh. Taezha-Ann Cordero took the loss for Leilehua in the pitching circle. She also batted 2 for 4 with an RBI. Shanaye Mattson had the only other run batted in for the Mules and also hit a triple. Leilehua couldn't take advantage of five Pearl City errors and allowed 11 hits by the visitors.
Leilehua entered Thursday in a three-way tie with Mililani and Waianae for first place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West (The Trojans and Seariders both won Thursday to move to 6-2). Since back-to-back losses to Campbell and Kapolei, the Mules had won four straight games.
The Sabers (4-3) are coming off a bye. They last played Monday in an eight-inning loss to Waianae. Campbell led 1-0 after the first inning and 2-1 after the fourth, but Waianae tied it for a second time in the top of the sixth, before plating the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eighth. Elisa Favela, who went the distance, took the loss for Campbell and batted 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored. Cydney Curran also batted 2 for 4 and Kawehi Kahana added a double.
Campbell had won its last three games before the loss Monday and beat Leilehua, 3-1, in their only other meeting this year back on March 13. Favela pitched a three-hitter and Chardonnay Pantastico scored twice in for the Sabers in that game.
The Mules and Sabers are in third and fourth place in the Red West, respectively. Campbell is one-half game behind Leilehua entering Saturday's game. First pitch is set for 9 a.m.
