Farrington coasted by Moanalua, 80-50 at Moanalua High School Gymnasium on Thursday night. The Govs, ranked No. 6 in the ScoringLive/OC16 Boys Basketball Power Rankings, improve to 6-1 in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red East while No. 8 Moanalua fell to 5-2. Kalaheo, who hung on to beat Kalani in overtime 48-46 tonight, is currently in first place in the Red East standings while Farrington is second and Moanalua drops to third.

The Govs are averaging 68.7 points per game which is second highest in the OIA Red. Mililani is in first, averaging 70.8 points per game.

Last week the Govs suffered their only loss in the Red East against Kalaheo, 58-54 and were missing Jacob McEnroe, Mason Semisi and Manly "Pumba" Williams as they played in the Polynesian All-American Bowl in California. Aside from the Kalaheo game, the Govs have beaten their Red opponents by an average of 20.3 points.

This week, Farrington was back at full strength and they showed how dangerous they could be when everything starts to click offensively and defensively.

"It was nice to have everyone here, even our football players, it was great," said Farrington coach Allan Silva.

"We have to work together and have fun and if we do that, we have a chance to win more games," said Jacob McEnroe, who finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Van Hugo led Farrington with 15 points and six rebounds and hit one 3-pointer.

Farrington took an early 6-2 lead after Jacob McEnroe hit both free throws. However, the Na Menehune managed to tie the game at 8 after a layup from Aaron Stuart. Moanalua took the lead after Jamaal Willis had a putback to make it 13-10. The Govs went on a 10-0 run capped by Mason Semisi's 3-point play to make it 20-13 after the end of the first quarter.

It was all Farrington as they scored 28 points in the second quarter. Mark Dudulao's fast break layup made it 31-18 and Moanalua called a full timeout to talk it over. The Govs pushed the lead to 20 points after a free throw from Tua Unutoa. The Govs shot 86.6 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line in the first half and finished with 77.8 percent (14-of-18) from the free throw line for the game. They managed to keep Moanalua in check and held them to 12 points in the quarter and they led 48-25 at halftime.

"Defense was the key tonight. Our defense started our offense, they played together and played very well. Yesterday in practice for two hours we only did defense and that was it," said Silva.

"We tried to run a man zone because my friend number 24 (Aaron Stuart) was killing me so we tried to a man the whole time, but a little bit of zone so I will stay in the middle and they were trying to get to the backdoor so I was trying to help out and it worked out half the time," said McEnroe.

Moanalua's Aaron Stuart led all scorers with 21 points and scored 15 of the team's 25 points in the first half. Moanalua shot 2-of-17 from beyond the 3-point line and shot 47 percent (8-of-17) from the free throw line for the game.

The largest of the game was 36 points as the Governors pushed it out of reach. Late in the third quarter there was a scary moment as Farrington's Tua Unutoa landed awkwardly and was writhing on the court in pain, but he managed to limp off the court. He scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the game.

Farrington also got contributions from reserves such as Seu Luafatasaga (nine points, six rebounds), Manly "Pumba" Williams (five points, two steals) and Jay-ar Francisco (six points, all in the fourth quarter). Both teams were able to empty out their benches in the fourth quarter.
