Kaiser's Sele released from hospital; awaiting clearance

Kaiser defensive lineman Christian Sele is awaiting doctor's clearance to play after leaving by ambulance during Saturday's Division II State quarterfinal against Konawaena at Kaiser stadium.

Sele was injured when he tried to make a diving effort on a pass play. He landed on the ground hard and remained there. An ambulance - rented by the Hawaii High School Athletic Association for the game - was already on site, so Sele received immediate attention. He has since been released from the hospital.

"We're not sure he'll be able to play this week, but he's walking, talking," Miano said. "We're just waiting for his doctor's clearance now."

Miano said Sele might have suffered from shock. "He thought he had lost some feeling, but all CAT scans and MRIs were negative," Miano said.

Kaiser won Division II quarterfinal, 59-6, and will travel to Maui for Saturday's semifinal against Lahainaluna. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.

Kaiser linebacker Tommy Fisher was not suited for the Konawaena game. Miano said for privacy reasons, he was advised not to disclose whether Fisher's situation was injury-related or school-related. Miano said he is hoping Fisher, who played for Maui High last year, will be available for the Lahainaluna game.
