Hawaiian Electric Game of the Week
Kamehameha looks to force playoff versus top-ranked Punahou

There will be plenty to play for Friday night when No. 1 meets No. 2 in Halawa— at least for one team.

Punahou, the top-ranked team in the ScoringLive/OC16 Division I Power Rankings and two-time state runner-up, faces off against second-ranked Kamehameha in the nightcap of an Interscholastic League of Honolulu doubleheader at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium.

The Buffanblu (8-0) and the Warriors (9-1) will play for the league's postseason title in the UHA Game of the Week. That game will follow the D2 final between Damien (4-5) and Iolani (6-4).

A week after overcoming a do-or-die scenario with its six-point win over Saint Louis, Kamehameha faces its second consecutive must-win game. Meanwhile, as the regular-season champion, Punahou must falter twice in as many weeks to lose out on the ILH's lone state tournament berth. Should the Warriors win Friday, the teams would meet again next weekend in a one-game, winner-take-all playoff.

Kickoff between the Warriors and Buffanblu is set for approximately 7:45 p.m.

The Buffanblu, meanwhile, were able to enjoy a bye as the regular-season champion and No. 1 seed. When these two teams met back on Sept. 14 in a regular-season battle, running back Wayne Taulapapa scored on a pair of runs and quarterback Larry Tuileta passed for 206 yards to lead Punahou to a 24-0 win. Kamehameha managed just 154 yards of total offense in that game.
