Perhaps the most anticipated volleyball match of the Oahu Interscholastic Association girls volleyball season will be played out Thursday night between the lone undefeated teams in the league.

Mililani, the Red West Conference champion, and Kahuku, the Red East champion will put their perfect records on the line when the teams meet in an OIA Red Tournament fourth-round game at McKinley's Student Council Gymnasium.

Both teams took care of business in their respective third-round matches Tuesday at the same venue. The Trojans upended Red East second-seed Moanalua in straight sets 26-24, 25-17 and 25-19 after the Red Raiders upended Red East third-seed Farrington in four sets 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19.

All four teams have already clinched a berth into the New City Nissan/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I State Championships, which will be played Oct. 29 to Nov. 1 on the Big Island.

Mililani got 10 kills from Ashlee Vaoifi, nine from Sarah Liva and seven from Jordyn Keamo against Moanalua. Vaoifi also registered one block and an ace, Liva was in on three blocks and Keamo had three of her team's eight aces.

"It was OK," Trojans' coach Val Crabbe said of her team's performance. "We didn't get as many blocks as I thought we might get tonight. The first game was really tough — we had so many errors — but I ought to be happy, it's the playoffs. I mean, we've got girls that it's their first time playing in this kind of a thing and not that it's like a deer in the headlights, but it's just inexperience, some jitters, it's the playoffs."

Mililani jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the opening game on Keamo's first ace of the night and stretched the lead to 10-4 on a Moanalua hitting error. However, Na Menehune battled to tie it at 13 to cap an 8-2 run. Later in the set, Mililani held a 20-16 advantage, but Moanalua scored the next five points — which included four Trojan errors — to seize a 21-20 lead. Na Menehune held a 23-22 lead before the Trojans got a kill from Liva in the middle and an ace from Jay Kapowai to pull ahead, 24-23. After a Mililani service error, Vaoifi pounded her sixth kill of game one to give her team set point and a Moanalua double-contact violation gave the Trojans the game, 26-24.

"We did good and we got in a rotation and everything we did after that because we battled, but they just came back and it was just too many consecutive errors at the wrong time," Crabbe said of game one. "I think we gave four serves and hit eight balls out of bounds and that ought to do it. We did good in the beginning, but those things added up in the end. Moanalua did good. they had a really good strong front and they ran the middle a lot more than we watched them do, we weren't really expecting that."

The Trojans got out to an 8-3 lead in the early part of game two and steadily increased their lead throughout. Moanalua called its first timeout trailing 19-12 after a tip kill by Vaoifi, but could do nothing to slow Mililani, which went on to win the set, 25-17. Vaoifi, Kapowai, Keamo and Liva each had three kills in game two. Moanalua committed five hitting errors and two service errors in the set, while Mililani committed just two of each.

Game three was more of the same with the Trojans forcing an early Na Menehune timeout at 7-1. Silerolia Gaogao's four kill of the set pulled Moanalua within 17-13, but the Trojans closed out the game and the match on a 5-2 run. Liva and Vaoifi combined for a block on match point.

Mililani out blocked Moanalua, 7 to 3. Na Menehune committed 11 hitting errors and six service errors for the match, while the Trojans made 10 hitting errors and 12 service errors.

Seven different players registered a kill for Mililani, which improved to 11-0, and has yet to drop a set this season.

Crabbe said her team is happy to have a shot at Kahuku Thursday. The teams met in the past two OIA Red championship matches. Mililani won in 2011 and Kahuku won last season.

"Oh gosh, I'm happy to be able to play them," Crabbe said. "The girls are really looking forward to it. This is the first time that we got to see them. I don't think they've seen us either, but I think it will be a good game."

KAHUKU 3, FARRINGTON 1

Adora Anae put down a match-high 20 kills to lead Kahuku to a four-set win over Farrington in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference Tournament third-round match Tuesday night at McKinley's Student Council Gymnasium. The scores were 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19.

The Red Raiders (12-0) had a number of reserves in the starting lineup against the Governors (8-4), which coach Tehani Fiatoa said was due to a "violation of team rules."

Farrington took advantage of the situation in game one, jumping out to a 10-7 lead. Kahuku came back to tie it at 14 on an ace by Talia Afalava, however, Farrington closed out the set with four straight points, capped by Kahakai's fifth kill of the game.

Anae had six kills in both the second and third games to lead the Red Raiders to wins of 25-20 and 25-19, respectively. Anae added five more kills in the fourth set, which Kahuku won 25-19.

Savanah Kahakai led the Governors with 11 kills.

Sinamoni Tonga had 14 kills and Brown added seven kills for the Red Raiders, who move on to play Red West champion Mililani Thursday in the winners' bracket final. That match will be played at 7 p.m. at McKinley.
