Kayla Afoa put down a team-high 13 kills, Alohi Robins-Hardy added 11 and Tiyana Hallums 10 to lead undefeated Kamehameha to a four-set win over Iolani Tuesday night.

A crowd of about 120 at the Raiders' lower gym witnessed the Warriors hold off the pesky home team, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-17. Kamehameha improved to 11-0 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu while Iolani dropped its third straight match and fell to 6-5.

It was the third time that the Warriors and Raiders played this season. Kamehameha has won every time, but Iolani is the only team to have taken a game off the Warriors this season. All of the Raiders' losses this season have come against either Punahou or Kamehameha.

"Iolani is a really well coached team," Warriors' coach Chris Blake said. "Even though they're young, they play very well, they play very together and after that first set when they settled down and they came back hard in that second set, we were lucky to rally together and play together. I'm proud of our team for coming together in such adverse conditions."

Afoa, a freshman outside hitter, recorded six kills in game one, while Robins-Hardy also notched 22 assists, two block assists and two aces. The Warriors committed just 17 hitting errors and four serving errors for the match.

"Once we saw how they were going to (defend) our offense — our girls do an excellent job of making adjustments and I'm proud of them for doing those little things and making those little tweaks here and there," Blake said. "Our libero Mia (Heirakuji) — she did great again today. She's moving around, getting us a lot of second and third swings. It was a great team effort all around."

Kamehameha took a 7-3 lead early in the opening set off a 4-0 run, but Iolani scored eight of the next 10 points to storm back 11-9. A few plays later, Hallums tied it at 12 with her second of three straight kills, which ignited a 6-0 Warriors' run. Sara Watanabe put down back-to-back kills to pull the Raiders within 17-15, however, Kamehameha closed out game one with an 8-2 run that was capped by a Robins-Hardy ace to win it, 25-17.

Iolani got three kills from Amnesty Dawson and two Kamehameha hitting errors early in game two to take a 5-0 lead and force a timeout.

"We knew that we had to settle down," Blake said. "Part of our keys today was to play our game. We spotted them — we were down 5-0, we call a timeout — we sided out, but they ran out and we were chasing that game."

The Warriors battled to tie it at 11 after three straight Raiders' errors and forced another tie at 16-all following an Afoa kill from the left side. However, Anna Uhr ignited an 8-2 Iolani run with her kill on the next play to give her team game point. Kamehameha got to within 24-22 following a block by Kealani Brown and Sarah Lau, but Dawson slammed her eighth kill of the set to win game two for Iolani, 25-22.

"The thing that we're really proud of in that second set is how we fought back at the end — we were right there," Blake said. "We talked about making some changes and adjustments in terms of what we were doing and the girls executed very well, we just ran out of points. We were lucky enough to carry that on into sets three and four and came out victorious in a very good game."

Brown finished with seven kills, five blocks and two assists and Lau had four kills, two blocks and four assists.

The third game was back-and-forth most of the way, with neither team leading by more than three points. There were nine ties and five lead changes in the game. Iolani took a slight lead at 19-18 on a Dawson kill, but Kamehameha was perfect the rest of the way, scoring six straight points despite two Iolani timeouts to win the swing game, 25-19.

"It's always about teamwork, we always have to work together," Robins-Hardy, who had one kill and combined with Browne for three blocks during the Warriors' 6-0 run to close out game three. "We work as a team, we win as a team."

A 5-0 run early in game four gave Kamehameha a 7-2 advantage, but Iolani used a 7-2 run — which included four Warrior errors — to tie it at 9-all. However, Kamehameha went on a 10-0 run to take a commanding 19-9 lead and Iolani never recovered. The Raiders pulled to within 20-15 on another Dawson kill, but the Warriors answered by scoring four of the next five points and Robins-Hardy put down kills for the final two points.

Dawson finished with a match-high 17 kills to lead Iolani. Uhr and Watanabe added 12 kills apiece and setter Bailey Choy distributed 36 assists, two aces and a block. The Raiders committed just 18 hitting errors and five service errors.

Payton Spragling added seven kills a block and an ace for the Warriors, who host Mid-Pacific Saturday at 10 a.m. Iolani visits Punahou 5 p.m. Friday.
