HAWAI'I KAI - The Falcons are soaring where no other Kalani team before them has gone.

Noah Brum completed 10 of 18 passes for 264 yards and five touchdowns - in one half - and Kalani cruised past 'Anuenue, 60-6, Saturday night at Kaiser stadium.

The Falcons, No. 9 in the ScoringLive/OC 16 D2 Power Rankings, clinched their first postseason berth in school history by improving to 5-2 in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White. The top four teams advance to the four-team White tournament. First-place Kaiser and second-place Radford and Pearl City are the other three who have clinched.

"It feels amazing," said Brum, who played just the first half. "It's so good I don't know how to explain it."

The Falcons (5-3 overall, 5-2 White) also are assured their first winning season in league play in 41 years. The 1972 Falcons were 5-3 in the OIA East and 6-4 overall. A win against Waialua in two weeks will secure an overall winning season.

"It hasn't sunk in yet," said Greg Taguchi, who is in his 13th season as Kalani's coach spanning three stints. "I think we, the coaching staff, are focusing on day-to-day, our next opponent and trying to be as best as we can be and improve every week. It's exciting for us."

Kalani has flown a long way. It had been on the wrong end of a romp many times in past years that it put on the under-manned Na Koa (0-7, 0-6), who suited 24 players. It was only a week ago Na Koa forfeited to Kaiser because it could not field enough healthy players to assure safety.

While it has been some four decades since Kalani has had a winning record in league, Taguchi said this team isn't any special than teams in between. What stands out to him is the players' attitude.

"The beauty of this team is behavior, the attitude and the work ethic they bring to the field (and) how they behave on campus," Taguchi said.

Na Koa turned over the ball six times, five of which were converted to TDs for the Falcons. Kalani started most of its series in 'Anuenue territory.

"I was happy we took advantage of the turnovers. The last game against Nanakuli, we didn't necessarily take advantage of the turnovers."

Brum threw TD passes of 41 and 22 yards to Brandon Roberts, who also saw action and QB in the second half and scored on a keeper. Brum also threw TDs of 25 yards to Trevor Yamashita, 10 yards to Blaise Manabe,  and 85 yards to Tyler Ho.

Kalani's other TDs came on runs of 2 yards by Cody Sakamoto, 3 yards by Brandon Nahina and 9 yards by Ikona Mamiya.

Kalani was up 21-0 after the first quarter before 'Anuenue got on the board early in the second quarter. Following an interception, at the Kalani 45, Na Koa drove down field, scoring on Kona Kelekolio's 14-yard pass to Kaimiloa Tasaka. The 2-point conversion try failed.

But the Falcons followed with six unanswered TDs the rest of the way.

The Falcons have a bye this week before closing out the regular season Oct. 11 at Waialua.
