'Iolani hosts Punahou in key ILH Friday matchup

Two games in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Friday feature meetings of teams in the ScoringLive Football Power Rankings. At 'Iolani, the eighth-ranked Raiders will host No. 7 Punahou at 3:15 p.m. and a doubleheader at Aloha Stadium gets under way at 5 p.m.

Kamehameha, ranked fourth, hopes to avoid the upset against a winless Damien in the 5 p.m. game while No. 5 Saint Louis and No. 9 Pac-Five will take to the field in the 7:45 p.m. nightcap.

Also, a full slate of games in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation is headlined by Saturday afternoon's game between unbeatens Konawaena and Kamehameha-Hawaii.

INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE OF HONOLULU

No. 7 Punahou at No. 8 'Iolani, 3:15 p.m. Friday

The meeting between old rivals will be an afternoon affair at Eddie Hamada Field on the Raiders' campus. Punahou (3-1), which beat Vista (Calif.) 19-7 in Southern California last week, will be playing its ILH opener. The Buffanblu have allowed just 28 points through four games this season while the Raiders' prolific offense is averaging over 317 yards and 24 points per game. Quarterback Larry Tuileta tossed touchdown passes of 20 and 23 yards and Christian Fairbairn added a pair of field goals to rally Punahou last week.

The Raiders (3-1 overall, 1-0 ILH) are coming off a 42-0 trouncing of Damien Friday, in which quarterback Reece Foy threw four touchdown passes and Kody Mento ran for two other scores and 105 yards. Foy, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound junior, has completed 59.4 percent of his passes for 743 yards with seven TDs against one INT this season. 'Iolani, which limited the Monarchs to 178 yards of offense last week, plays Pac-Five and Saint Louis, respectively, the next two weekends.

Damien vs. No. 4 Kamehameha at Aloha Stadium, 5 p.m. Friday

The Warriors (2-2 overall, 1-0 ILH), who moved up two spots in the SL Football Power Rankings to No. 4 this week, have won their last two - including a 28-21 win over previously-unbeaten Saint Louis Friday - after an 0-2 start. Running back Bronson Barretto had a pair of rushing touchdowns and Kanekoa Pawn-White kicked field goals of 27 and 38 yards in the win. Nephi Stevens and Cid Camanse-Stevens have split the reps at quarterback for Kamehameha, which held Saint Louis to just 70 yards rushing.

The Monarchs (0-3, 0-1) are still searching for their first win and are probably hoping just to come away unscathed from this one. After losing starting quarterback Alan Mohika to a season-ending concussion in their season opener, Damien also saw linebacker Mika'ele Nakamura go down with a possible neck injury last week. Sophomore Syles Choy (251 pass yards, 51.4 completion percentage) has filled in at QB and Rusty Kauahikaua, a 5-foot-7 senior, leads the team in both rushing and receiving yards from scrimmage.

No. 5 Saint Louis vs. No. 9 Pac-Five at Aloha Stadium, 7:45 p.m. Friday

The Crusaders (3-1 overall, 0-1 ILH) would like to rebound from a 28-21 to Kamehameha Friday while the Wolf Pack (3-0) want to keep things rolling. Saint Louis had several players - including wide receiver Jeremy Tabuyo (16 receptions, 318 yards, 5 touchdowns) and offensive lineman Reeve Koehler (6-foot-4, 270-pound, junior) - leave last week's game with an injury. Quarterback Kawai Mook-Garcia threw for 309 yards and three scores (all to Tabuyo) in a losing effort.

Pac-Five, who is coming off a bye week, has yet to allow an opponent to score and it has outscored its competition, 49-0, on the season. Quarterback Jack Foster has passed for 493 yards with four touchdowns against no interceptions and the Wolf Pack defense allows an average of just 170 yards each time out. Wide receiver Reece Alvarado has a TD grab in each game this year.

MAUI INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE

Kamehameha-Maui vs. No. 9 Baldwin at War Memorial Stadium, 7 p.m. Friday

The Bears (1-1 overall, 1-0 MIL) returned to the SL Football Power Rankings - at No. 9 this week - following their resounding 40-0 shutout of Lahainaluna Friday. Keelan Ewaliko threw a touchdown pass and rushed for two more scores and running back Vetekina Malafu added two other TD runs as Baldwin pounded out 294 rushing yards in the win. The Warriors (1-2), who were led by Kalai Yap's two TD runs in a 24-15 win over King Kekaulike Saturday, will be playing their third consecutive MIL Div. 1 team.

King Kekaulike vs. Maui at War Memorial Stadium, 7 p.m. Saturday

Na Alii (0-3 overall, 0-2 MIL) have yet to win a game, but did score its first points of the year in a 24-15 loss at its upcountry neighbor, Kamehameha-Hawaii, Saturday. The Sabers (1-1, 1-0) beat the Warriors, 28-27, two weeks ago to pick up their first win. Quarterback Siueli Vaha scored on a 1-yard run and Keone Kapisi kicked the game-winning extra point in double overtime for Maui, who also got 170 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Chastin Valdez.

BIG ISLAND INTERSCHOLASTIC FEDERATION

Kohala at Honokaa, 2 p.m. Friday

The Cowboys (0-1) visit the Dragons (2-2) in the BIIF Div. 2 opener for both teams. Kohala lost to Kamehameha-Hawaii, 32-6, Saturday while Honoka'a took a 63-10 drubbing from Kealakehe Friday night. The Dragons will play two of its next three games at home, but follow that with four straight on the road.

Konawaena at Kamehameha-Hawaii, 1 p.m. Saturday

It will be a battle of unbeatens at Pai'ea Stadium between the Warriors (4-0 overall, 1-0 BIIF Div. 2) and the visiting Wildcats (3-0). Kamehameha-Hawaii returns home after three consecutive road contests. Sophomore quarterback Kahoalii Karratti threw two touchdown passes as Konawaena scored four second-half touchdowns to rally for a 28-21 win at Hawaii Prep Saturday.

Hawaii Prep at Ka'u, 6 p.m. Saturday

Ka Makani (1-2 overall, 0-1 BIIF Div. 2) are coming off a 28-21 home loss to Konawaena Saturday, in which it led 21-0. Quarterback Keanu Yamamoto threw three touchdowns, but was also picked off twice in a losing effort for HPA, which plays four of its next five games on the road. The Trojans (0-1) haven't played a game since Aug. 27, when they were on the wrong side of a 63-0 blowout against Honoka'a.

Kealakehe vs Hilo at Wong Stadium, 7 p.m. Saturday

The Waveriders (2-1) would like to build on the momentum they captured from a 63-10 rout of Honoka'a Friday. Kealakehe's offense - led by quarterback Tyler Yates - averages over 37 points per game, but the defense has shown its susceptibility to the pass. The Vikings (0-3) are still looking for their first win of the season.

KAUAI INTERSCHOLASTIC FEDERATION

Waimea vs. Kauai at Vidinha Stadium, 7:30p Saturday

This will be the second meeting in eight days between the Menehunes (3-0 overall, 1-0 KIF) and the Red Raiders (1-2, 0-1). Devan Banasihan Kenney caught a touchdown pass and ran in another score and Keoni Ana scored on a punt return and an interception return to lead Waimea to a 28-7 win at Hanapepe Ballpark Saturday.
