It was a one-sided contest in the OIA White, as Kalani cruised easily past Roosevelt, 63-20, Friday night at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. The Falcons bounced back from a tough defeat in a shootout against Radford last week.

The Falcons, No. 9 in the ScoringLive/OC16 Division II Power Rankings improved to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the OIA White, while Roosevelt fell to 1-5 overall, and 1-4 in the OIA White.

The Falcons took to the air in their victory over the Rough Riders led by quarter back Noah Brum, who completed 17 of his 29 pass attempts for 431 yards and six touchdowns.

"We just try to get better every week, and he (Brum) is progressing." said Kalani head coach Greg Taguchi. "We just want to get better every week with him, and he is making the strides that we want him to make."

Noah Brum got a lot of help from receiver Trevor Yamashita who finshed the night with five receptions for 203 yards and three touchdowns. Blaise Manabe also had a big game hauling in 6 passes for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Roosevelt's Keanu Furtado finished the night completing 14-of-32 pass attempts for 135 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Sheadon Kalei caught six passes for 45 yards and a touchdown and Kainalu Pitoy caught two passes for 51 yards and 1 touchdown.

It didn't take Kalani long to get on the scoreboard. On the Falcons' third offensive play of the game Noah Brum connected with Trevor Yamashita for a 71-yard touchdown pass. Kalani continued to pour it on offensively putting up 14 more points in the first quarter with a 22-yard touchdown run by Ikona Mayima and a 30 yard touchdown pass from Brum to Blaise Manave.

At the start of the second quarter Kalani started right where they left off with Brum finding Brandon Roberts on the first play of the quarter for a 19 yard touchdown putting the Falcons up 28-0.

Roosevelt would battle back, responding with a 6 yard touchdown pass from Keanu Furtado to Sheadon Kalei. On Kalani's ensuing possession Roosevelt's Dustin Albarado intercepted a pass from Noah Brum and returned it 54 yards for a touchdown putting the Rough Riders right back in the game pulling them to within 18 points of Kalani.

"There was a little lull after the first quarter, we gave up some quick scores, and on offense we gave up a pick-six and some turnovers which Roosevelt capitalized on," said Taguchi.

Kalani would bounce back, coming out of their "little lull" firing on all cylinders. The Falcons finished the first half by scoring two straight touchdowns, Brum connecting with Yamashita twice, one touchdown pass going for 17 yards and the other a 78 yard strike right before the half putting Kalani up 42-12 heading into halftime. Brum would finish the half 16-of-27 passing for 374 yards and 5 touchdowns.

In the second half, Brum got right back to work finding Manave again for a 57-yard touchdown 55 seconds in the third quarter putting Kalani up 49-12. That touchdown pass would be the last play of the night for Brum. He was replaced at quarterback by Brandon Roberts, who finished the rest of the game.

"I think I did pretty good," said Noah Brum, "My linemen did a great job and I am thankful for them. It was mostly receivers really, I was just putting the ball out there and they were going and getting it."

Kalani would go on to score two more touchdowns in the third quarter including an 80-yard interception return for touchdown by Akio Abdul-Adal which capped off the Falcons' scoring for the night, putting Kalani well ahead of Roosevelt, 63-12.

"I thought we played pretty well, I'm pleased with the progress we made." said Taguchi.

Kalani will play the Golden Hawks of Nanakuli next week at Kaiser Stadium. Roosevelt will head to Pearl City next week to take on the Chargers.
