OIA regular season to kick off this weekend

While most leagues across the state continue with non-league games this weekend, the Oahu Interscholastic Association regular season kicks off for both the Red West and White conferences.

Here is a look at those games:

OIA RED WEST

Leilehua at Kapolei - Friday, 7 p.m.

The Mules (0-0-1) are coming off a rare-Thursday night game last week against Robert Service of Alaska and will have an extra day of rest to prepare for the Hurricanes (1-0). While Leilehua, tied for fourth in this week's ScoringLive Power Rankings, had to rally from a two-touchdown deficit to tie the Cougars, Kapolei cruised to a 54-0 rout of Div.-II Pearl City.

Quarterback Kenan Sadanaga passed for 351 yards and four touchdowns and receiver Allan Racette had nine receptions for 165 yards and one TD for Leilehua last week and both will again be crucial to the Mules' success Friday. Receiver Jeremiah Andrade and safety Russell Siavii, who also sees times on offense, are expected to miss the game after each suffered a concussion last week.

Five different players ran in scores for Kapolei, which tallied 226 rushing yards against Pearl City. The Hurricanes' defense allowed just 130 yards and recorded three interceptions in the win.

It will be the second of three consecutive home games to open the season for Kapolei.

Waianae at Campbell - Friday, 7 p.m.

After falling to top-rated Kahuku, 26-0, last week, the Seariders (0-1) will look to rebound against the Sabers (1-0). Waianae gained a meager 82 yards of offense against the Red Raiders, but played without its top running back in Jaylen Mitchell and quarterback Devon Seabrooks.

Campbell is coming off a 68-0 scorching of Waipahu last week. Quarterback Justin Tago threw three touchdown passes, including one to Isaac Hurd, who also ran in a pair of scores and linebacker Solomon Leaeno returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the win.

Waianae, ranked eighth this week, will be playing its second of three consecutive road games to open the season.

Radford at Mililani - Saturday, 7 p.m.

The Rams (0-1) will visit John Kauinana Stadium after falling to 'Iolani, 26-7, at last week's Father Bray Classic and expect to get back several starters - including its top two quarterbacks - who did not play in the season opener due to academics. Running backs Chris Jackson and Krix Hughley will play big roles if Radford is to pull off the upset.

The Trojans (1-0) shook off a shaky start to romp Moanalua, 36-7, last week. Mililani trailed early on, but got a pair of interception returns for scores and blocked a punt that was recovered for a touchdown, to help an offense that is replacing all 11 starters from last year. Wide receiver Kaimi Wilson caught nine passes for 185 yards and two TDs against Moanalua.

Mililani is no. 6 in this week's SL Power Rankings.

OIA WHITE

Waipahu at Nanakuli - Friday, 7 p.m.

Both teams are looking for a chance at redemption this week. The Marauders (0-1) were trounced by Campbell, 68-0, last week while the Golden Hawks (0-1) had to forfeit a game against Kaiser because it did not have enough linemen academically eligible. Waipahu has a new head coach in Eric Keola, but does return quarterback Drake Yoshioka.

Pearl City vs. Anuenue at Waialua - Saturday, 4 p.m.

The Chargers (0-1) are looking to rebound after a 54-0 loss at Kapolei last week, in which they allowed 304 yards while it gained just 130. Pearl City is reeling from the loss of two-way stars Cyrus Coen and Ray Cooper to graduation. Quarterback Kaimi Paredes was picked off three times by the Hurricanes. It will be the first game for Anuenue, which lists just 22 players on its roster.

Kaimuki vs. McKinley at Roosevelt - Saturday, 5:30 p.m.

Both teams are coming off victories in week one to set-up this clash at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. The Bulldogs (1-0) hit the road last week and came back from the Big Island with a 21-14 win over Hawaii Prep. Kaimuki's offense showed balance, rushing for 175 yards and passing for another 159, and rallied from a 21-7 halftime deficit. Wide receiver Kanoe Barcenas had 104 receiving yards on four grabs in the win. The Tigers (1-0) got a pair of touchdown runs from Fia Duarte and held off Div.-I Castle, 14-0, last week.

Kalaheo at Waialua - Saturday, 6:00 p.m.

This is the season-opening game for both teams. The Mustangs will make the trek out to the North Shore for the game, which will follow the Pearl City-Anuenue contest. Kalaheo, which runs a veer-option attack, must replace quarterback Justin Pagan, who graduated in the spring. With no junior varsity team, the Bulldogs will carry a large number of underclassmen this season. Seniors Kennedy Siaosi and Ezra Travis will play on both sides of the ball for Waialua.
