HUB Goodwill Senior Bowl set for Friday at Kamehameha

The 22nd Annual Hawaii Union Builders Foundation Goodwill Senior Bowl, featuring 100 seniors from schools in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and the Oahu Interscholastic Association, will be held Friday at Kamehameha's Kunuiakea Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ScoringLive.com and will feature Felipe Ojastro (play-by-play), Mark Veneri (color commentary) and Aven Santiago (sideline).

The East squad includes Iolani and Pac-Five in the ILH, along with OIA Eastern Division schools. The West team is made up of Damien, Kamehameha and Punahou from the ILH and the OIA Western Division schools.

The top four rushers in the state statistically headline the East team. Kahuku's Aofaga Wily (1,730 rush yards, 26 touchdowns), along with Farrington's duo of Amo Silva (1,665 rush yards, 18 TDs) and Tyler Taumua (1,375 rush yards, 19 TDs) join Anuenue's Kainalu Kaleo (1,441 rush yards, 16 TDs) in a crowded backfield. Also listed among the East running backs are Kaiser's Kai Gonda (851 rush yards, 12 rush TDs) and Pac-Five's Keoni Tom-Millare (731 rush yards, 9 TDs), who led the ILH in rushing yards.

Other notables on the East squad include Kahuku defensive back Kawehena Johnson, who had two interceptions and a receiving touchdown in the Red Raiders' 42-20 win over Punahou in the Division I state final, and Iolani's Reece Foy, who threw for 299 yards and five touchdowns in the Raiders' 36-33 win over Lahainaluna in the Division II title game.

The strength of the West squad will probably be its defensive front. Leading the way is Waianae defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii, who over the weekend gave a verbal commitment to the University of Hawaii, along with Mililani defensive end/tight end Dakota Turner, a San Diego State commit. Also on the defensive line is Radford defensive end Mana Kakiwa and Punahou nose tackle Logan Hanohano. His Buffanblu teammate, Isaac Savaiinaea anchors the linebacking corps.

Offensive standouts on the West include Mililani's Jarin Morikawa, who led the state with 3,570 pass yards and 37 touchdowns. He will have two of the state's most productive receivers at his disposal in Leilehua's Keoni Piceno (832 receiving yards, 6 TDs) and Pearl City's Daicorri Briscoe (878 receiving yards, 9 TDs). Punahou's Ryan Tuiasoa (937 rush yards, 17 TDs) is one of five running backs listed for the West.

Proceeds from the game will be distributed through scholarships to outstanding student-athletes. Since 1989, the HUB Foundation has distributed nearly $600,000 to student-athletes and student organizations. The East has won 10 times, while the West has won nine and the game has twice ended in a tie. The West won last year's game, which was played at Radford's John E. Velasco Stadium, by a score of 46-14.

General admission tickets are $6 for ages 5-and-over and can be purchased at the Kunuiakea Stadium box office prior to kickoff.

Farrington, Kahuku and Kamehameha led the selections with 10 players apiece. Randall Okimoto (Farrington) is the head coach for the East and David Stant (Kamehameha) is the West head coach. Every school on Oahu is represented by at least one senior, with the exception of Saint Louis, which is unable to participate due to a senior-class retreat this weekend.
