Leilehua sweeps West, Moanalua, Kaiser win out East


Leilehua won the boys and girls cross country team titles at Saturday's Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division Championships.

Leilehua runners grabbed the top three spots in the boys 3-mile race at Waialua High School. Christopher Olverson won the race in 16 minutes, 39.39 seconds. Dylan Martinez was second in 17:16.49 and Jordan Castro was third in 17:26.09. Joshua Castro finished seventh in 18:00.82 to help the Mules, the defending state champion, finish with 32 points. Pearl City was second with 46.

Michaela Ross of Leilehua won the girls 3-mile race in 20:39.22, edging out Radford's Tandeka Nunn (20:41.07). Leilehua's Brooklin Jensen finished fourth in 21:52.31 and Mary Eccles was fifth in 22:01.89 to help the Mules finish with 38 points. Radford was second with 50.

At the OIA Eastern Division Championship, Austin Davis and Jerrod Wolfe finished first and second to help Moanalua capture the boys team title. Davis finished the 3-mile race at Hawaii Pacific University in 17:14.47 and Wolfe followed in 17:23.10. Teammate Eric Miyauchi placed fifth with a time of 17:35.97 as Na Menehune finished with a meet-low 30 points. Kalaheo was second with 59.

In the girls race, Kaiser edged Roosevelt 32 to 35 for the team title. Kaiser was led by Alea Amano (second, 21:11.11) and Kai Murray-Pasion (third, 22:39.53). Amanda Lui (ninth, 23:38.36) and Allyson Matsuoka (10th, 23:47.95) were key finishers for Kaiser as they beat Roosevelt's third, fourth, and fifth runners that placed 11th, 12th, and 13th. In cross country, each team's top five runners score points for the team total. Roosevelt's Tamako Delfino won the race in 21:03.85.

The OIA junior varsity championships will be held this Saturday at Waialua and the OIA championship is scheduled for Oct. 20 at HPU.
