PEARL CITY - Khade Paris rushed for three touchdowns as Nanakuli improved to 2-1 on the season with a 34-28 victory over Pearl City in an OIA White thriller at Edwin "Bino" Neves Stadium.

"A really big shocker," said Paris. "Because we never won over Pearl City in a long time," he continued.

Pearl City would get on the scoreboard first Friday night as senior quarterback Brock Teixera connected with senior receiver Daicorri Briscoe for an 85 yard touchdown with 1:36 left to go in the first quarter.  A 40 yard throw would go for an 85 yard score after a couple tackles were broken by Briscoe. Teixera would find Briscoe again for a wide open 21 yard score in the second quarter, this time at the 6:00 mark.

All of the Chargers touchdowns were from 20 yards or more for the game.

"They played their hearts out," said Paris. "I respect them. They did really great."

After being held scoreless in the first period, Nanakuli responded in the second quarter with a three yard run by Paris. The senior running back would score add two more touchdowns both from three yards out to pace the Golden Hawks offensively.

"I never really expected to do this good," said Paris. " I really got to thank them (offensive line). I love them to the max."

The Chargers would strike back with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Junior quarterback Travis Joe would connect with receiver Tanner Tokunaga and the junior would break an arm tackle attempted by a Nanakuli defender and race down the sideline for a 70 yard score.

That touchdown would come at the 9:31 mark of the fourth quarter.

Daicorri Briscoe would make the highlights again, this time on special teams. With a little over a minute after their Tokunaga's score, Nanakuli found themselves in a punting situation. Receiving the punt was Briscoe, who navigated and maneuvered his way through the punt coverage to return the ball 60 yards for the touchdown.

That score would tie the game at 28 a piece at the 8:12 minute of the fourth.

Nanakuli took control of the ball in the fourth and grinded the clock out with a straight ground and pound game as they marched down the field. Taking nearly seven minutes off the clock, the Golden Hawks finished their drive with a ten yard pass for a touchdown from junior quarterback Chazz Troutman to receiver Lansen Liki with a little over a minute left to go in the final period. Liki also found then endzone earlie in the game as well, on a two point conversion after a Paris touchdown.

The game was sealed on the following drive of Pearl City, as junior defensive back Jaryn Paris would intercept a pass intended for a Charger receiver with 30 seconds to go in the game to end the threat.

"I’m proud of them," said Paris. "They (the team) all did their assignments. They all did what they had to do."
