Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) opened the game with a 16-3 run and held off Academy of the Pacific, 48-29, last night in the opening round of the 28th Annual 'Iolani Prep Classic.

The Mustangs, ranked No. 4 in the ESPN/Powerade Fab 50, will face 'Iolani in tomorrow's 5 p.m. quarterfinal. AOP will play Kaimuki at 10:30 a.m. in tomorrow's consolation bracket.

Montrose Christian jumped out to leads of 8-0 and 16-3 before the Dolphins closed it to 20-11 on Artur Mkrtychyan's jumper with 4:42 remaining in the second period. An 8-0 run to end the half then pushed the lead to 34-15.

AOP could not get within 17 points in the second half.

Kevin Zabo led the Mustangs with 11 points.�
