Wilson brothers connect for Wai'anae

One Wai'anae Wilson brother was plenty enough for Kailua to deal with last Friday night - and two proved to be overwhelming.

Puletua Wilson completed 8 of 9 passes for 239 yards and five touchdowns to help the visiting Seariders stun the Surfriders, 49-7. Two of those TD strikes went to twin brother James, who also returned an interception 36 yards back to the house on the game's first play from scrimmage.

That was the first of three picks off state passing leader Kahaku Iaea, who was just 2 of 10 for four yards in the opening quarter. Another interception two plays after James Wilson's set up a 36-yard touchdown pass from brother to brother, helping Wai'anae take a 14-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.

"(The Seariders) were ready to play, and we didn't adjust," Kailua coach Gary Rosolowich said.

Pule Wilson connected with Keola Bradley on a 56-yard scoring pass later in the quarter, which finished with the Seariders up, 21-0.

Three minutes into the second quarter, Wilson threw a screen pass to Ho'okena Kamana, who followed his blockers on a 29-yard path to the end zone.

And with 1:29 before halftime, Wilson found tight end Malei Suiaunoa on a 14-yard TD pass over the middle and Shaughn Spencer's extra point made it 35-0.

Wilson, who entered the game with four touchdowns through the air, doubled his season total in the first half alone. His fifth TD pass went 41 yards to brother James to help Wai'anae seal the game at 42-7 with 59 seconds still remaining in the third quarter.

"We was expecting this, because we worked hard all week," Pule Wilson said. "We just had to play together, and play Wai'anae football."
