Castle travels to Leilehua Saturday night

Castle's Jaymason Lee and Leilehua's Kenan Sadanaga will carry the postseason hopes of their respective teams in Saturday's O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red quarterfinal at Hugh Yoshida Stadium.

The game will be broadcast live on OC16.

The winner advances to the semifinals Oct. 29 against the winner of Friday's Kahuku-Radford quarterfinal.

The Mules (5-2), ranked fourth in the ScoringLive-OC 16 Football Power Rankings, and Knights (5-3) are well-armed for their first meeting since the first round of the 2007 OIA tournament. Leilehua won that game, but its two QBs got injured. The next week, a sophomore summoned from the JV took over. That would be Andrew Manley.

Lee, second in the state with 1,861 yards, is coming off a 409-yard performance in a 52-23 loss to Kahuku, while Sadanaga passed for a season-high 362 yards in a 42-35, double overtime loss to Mililani. Both games were two weeks ago in their respective regular season finales.

Sadanaga, a junior, has shared time with senior Jordan Kalaau. They have combined for more than 1,500 yards passing. Darrien Shealy and Fred Padrones are the Mules' leading receivers with a combined 1,021 yards and 11 TD catches.

The Knights' leading receiver is Joshua Kong with 30 receptions for 550 yards and five TDs.

The teams have a long history as original members of the OIA. The Mules hold a 26-13-1 lead in the series, but have met only four times in the past 10 seasons. Leilehua has won the last three meetings.

In other Red quarterfinals, Radford (5-4) travel to top-ranked Kahuku (8-0), Wai'anae (3-5) visits No. 9 Kailua (5-3) and No. 8 Farrington (6-3) goes to No. 3 Mililani (7-1). All three games are Friday.

In the White semifinals, Kaimuki plays Pearl City at Kaiser Friday and Kalaheo visits Waipahu Saturday. The winners advance to the championship Nov. 5 at Aloha Stadium and secure Division II state berths.
