HAWAII KAI — Makayla Fonoimoana-Vaomu recorded a match-high 11 kills to lead No. 6 Kahuku to a sweep of host Kaiser Tuesday night. The scores were 25-16, 25-15 and 25-20.

The Red Raiders claimed their sixth straight victory in Oahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division play to improve to 9-1 on the season. They are assured of the East's second seed and a first-round bye in this month's Division I league tournament.

The Cougars, who had won five of their last six matches before Tuesday's loss, fell to 7-4 and will be the third seed out of the East in the 12-team OIA tournament.

Kahuku also got nine kills apiece from Skyy Botelho and Kalamela Liua — who added two block assists and an ace — and eight kills and five block assists from Emma Mapu. Keau Kamakeeaina notched 34 assists in the win.

Four players had four kills each for Kaiser, including Jaylynn Nihipali, who added 10 assists and two block assists in a losing effort.

The Red Raiders conclude the 11-game regular season at home against Kailua Thursday night.
